Seattle students walk out of school, demand mask mandates be reinstated

More than 100 Seattle Public Schools students walked out of class Monday morning to protest the district’s decision to end the requirement that students and staff wear masks.

“It’s absolutely maddening we have to take time away from our education to fight for safety and health,” said Marigold Wong, a sophomore at Franklin High School.
The newly formed Seattle Student Union, a group of student activists that organized the rally, have been demanding stronger safety protocols since January, including district-issued high-quality masks. The group has been threatening a walkout since Gov. Jay Inslee announced plans to end mask requirements in schools, child care facilities, and most other businesses.
The student union sent the School Board and Jones a letter last week asking that mask requirements continue, or they would take action. Students from schools around the district showed up, including from Franklin, Chief Sealth International, Roosevelt, Lincoln, Nova and Center high schools.
“Every time we try to get hasty and toss our masks off, we have another spike and another thousand people die,” said Eridon Stewart, a 17-year-old senior at Nova High, who spoke at the rally. Stewart said her mother has asthma, and could die if she caught the virus. Other students also talked about the threat COVID-19 poses to family members who are immunocompromised.

I was the first person I knew to get COVID back in March 2020. Yes, it was aggravating. I slept a lot, way more than usual, like twice as much. But so what? It doesn’t rank even in the top worst 111 things I’ve suffered in my life…. As far as the greater threat to COVID in high risk people, well, I was already in six or more such categories, with lifetime chronic asthma, overweight, high blood pressure, tachycardia, liver and kidney problems…. so I should have died. It’s possible that one of my habits made me stronger: I take a minimum of 3,000 mg of Vitamin C/500 mg Vitamin D every single day, plus I take old-school asthma medication that keeps me breathing (Theodur/Theophyllin). All very sophisticated, high tech stuff. And then, after I had had the symptoms of COVID for about 3 weeks, I asked me PCP home doctor to give me Hydroxychloroquine (which I had taken once 33 years before for Malaria, in 1986-7). Within a week I was symptom free. So…. I have NOTHING BUT SCORN for people who are still addicted to COVID-fear–because that’s all it is. I don’t know about you, but I’ve had colds and flues almost every year of my life, sometimes twice or even three times in a year—probably AM more susceptible to those because of asthma…. and guess what, two years after coming down with COVID-19 I’m still alive an unvaccinated and happy as a clam that I avoided doing anything new—aside from allowing them to test me with the nasal swab. The COVID pandemic is a SCAM…. it may have been planned. It certainly is not more dangerous than a million other things we are inevitably exposed to. We’re all going to die (I wish I could figure a way out of that one, but people have been working on that… since the beginning of time). And if your clock is up, it’s up. Despite the fact that my lifestyle is basically AWFUL from the standpoint of health…..I eat too much, don’t exercise enough and fool around with very some dicey women (even at my advanced, way over-the-hill, middle age). And no, I don’t wear masks while hanging out with those young ladies either…. So I say to all those young people who want masks: YOU ARE ALL STUPID COWARDLY FOOLS. GROW UP OR JUST DIE NOW AND GET IT OVER WITH!
