2016

2016 is a new movie supposedly opening in theaters next month (June 2012). It appears that the movie is not Obama friendly. The writer also makes the claim that Obama is no ordinary democrat and that love Obama or hate Obama, you don’t know Obama.

The movie is based on a book written by Dinesh D’Souza entitled The Roots of Obama’s Rage (2010).   Other books written by D’Souza include: What is So Great About America (2002), What is So Great About Christianity (2008), The End of Racism (1995) and Letter to a Young Conservative (2003) and God Forsaken (2012).

D’Souza (pictured here with President Reagan) was born in India and came to the United States as an exchange student and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College in 1983.  He went on to work in the Reagan White House as a policy analyst.

The movie was produced by Gerald R. Molen and directed by Jim Hanon.

Movies produced by Molen include Schindler’s List, Jurassic Park, Rain Man and Minority Report. Molen has produced at least twenty movies. Jim Hanon has worked on more than several documentaries.

I think Dinesh D’Souza’s theory, as explained in his book, ‘The Roots of Obama’s Rage’, is accurate and helpful in explaining many of Obama’s actions. D’Souza understands the political concept and ramifications of ‘anti-colonialism’ and he has recognized this mindset as a strong driving force on Obama.

It is obvious why the drafters of our Constitution directed that the powerful office of U.S. President MUST be occupied ONLY by a ‘natural born Citizen’. This very stringent restriction does not insure that the office holder is either competent or loyal to the country’s ideals. However, it does greatly help, at least on the latter trait, but only if the requirement is ENFORCED!

So why is this wise 200+ year old restriction not being enforced with Obama? — WTF – “The answer my friend is blowin’ in the wind.” (http://www.wasobamaborninkenya.com/InspectorSmith/showthread.php/1303-AZ-Secretary-of-State-Ken-Bennett-Caves-Backs-Off-Obama-Ballot-Denial-Apologizes ) Very sad, indeed!

Since it will be a month or so before the movie, ‘Obama’s America – 2016’ is released, I cannot as yet offer an opinion on it. The next best thing is to look a little more closely at D’Souza and his book, on which the movie is based.

I think the Fall 2010 interview of D’Souza, regarding his book, by Glen Beck as shown in the following three videos, is helpful in gaining further understanding of the theory:

Glen Beck – Roots of Obama Rage, Parts 1, 2 and 3
    Uploaded 9/30/10 – 10/1/10 by ‘jamesmichl’

I think ‘Obama’s America – 2016’ will be a GREAT movie and I plan to arrive early on its first showing at my local theater to get ahead of the large crowd that I hope will be attending!

    Dear Daniel:

I’m sorry, but…I’m going to say this again…

If the wording on the Constitution says “No person, except a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN, or a CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES…”

then there is TWO DISTINCT ENTITIES that can run…

but, if the SCOTUS RULING of 18-whatever says, that BOTH PARENTS MUST BE NATURAL BORN CITIZENS, and have the baby ON-SOIL for the BABY to be considered NATURAL BORN…

And there is no cutoff point recognized by the SCOTUS….

And the opinion held, standing as LAW, that ONLY A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN CAN BE PRESIDENT….

Then we have a paradox…and a VERY BIG PROBLEM HERE.

    both the TWO PARENTS…
    the FOUR GRANDPARENTS
    the EIGHT GREAT GRANDPARENTS
    the SIXTEEN GREAT GREAT GRANDPARENTS
the THIRTY-TWO GREAT GREAT GREAT GRANDPARENTS
the SIXTY FOUR GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GRANDPARENTS
the ONE HUNDRED TWENTY-EIGHT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GRANDPARENTS….

How many generations Back do we need to go?
    Three? Five? Nineteen?

See…even if ONE of those ancestors SLIPPED UP, and was born off-soil and didn’t naturalize BEFORE THE NEXT GENERATION WAS BORN….

then it knocks the WHOLE THING OUT OF CONTENTION….

    see the problem?

Now, let’s say that there is a rule that says “Three Generations back, and There’s the cutoff” You still have the same problem….

So what I am asking here, is, Did SCOTUS overrule THOMAS JEFFERSON?

Reportedly, Thomas Jefferson said, “Children born of American Mothers[,] Abroad, are considered NATURAL BORN CITIZENS, If the mother herself is a Natural Born Citizen, AND has residency for at least one year.”

So, Daniel…why must RESIDENCY mean to be: as LIVING APART FROM THEIR PARENTS, with a separate address?

Why can’t it mean as a child living with parents?

What D’Souza Doesn’t Get Quite Right

    American Thinker
    © Jack Cashill
    9/15/2010

    Excerpt:

“Dinesh D’Souza has long been one of America’s shrewdest and bravest political observers. His much discussed Forbes article, “How Obama Thinks,” a prelude to his forthcoming book, The Roots of Obama’s Rage, burnishes that reputation. Indeed, Newt Gingrich describes D’Souza’s thesis as the “most profound insight I have read in the last six years about Barack Obama.”

In the article, D’Souza argues that President Obama has absorbed much of his governing philosophy from his socialist, “anticolonial” father, Barack Obama Sr. “According to Obama,” writes D’Souza, “his dream is his father’s dream. Notice that his title is not Dreams of My Father but rather Dreams from My Father .”

As much as I admire D’Souza, however, I must take issue with his argument. Yes, Obama does seem to espouse a certain inchoate anticolonialism, but the “dreams” do not come so much from his father as his from his mother, and they have been given voice by Obama’s muse, terrorist emeritus Bill Ayers. As a result, Obama’s ideology is less coherent and more malleable than D’Souza would have the reader believe.

D’Souza, like most commentators in the more respectable reaches of the conservative media, goes wrong by denying himself the information unearthed in the blogosphere. He writes of Obama, for instance, “Here is a man who spent his formative years–the first 17 years of his life–off the American mainland.”

Not true. As has now been proved beyond contention, Obama spent the first year of his life in Seattle with his mother, the cruelly named Stanley Ann Dunham, henceforth “Ann.” This is no minor point. Ann left Hawaii within two weeks of Obama’s birth. Barack Obama Sr. may not have seen the boy until he was ten.

When the media attack D’Souza, they add to the confusion with their own unqualified embrace of the official Obama origins story. As a case in point, the Washington Post’s Eugene Robinson dismisses D’Souza’s thesis in part because Barack Sr. “left the family when the future president was 2.”

No, Barack Sr. quit Hawaii for Harvard before Obama’s first birthday, months before Ann and the baby returned to Hawaii. The little family never lived together. There is no evidence of a wedding other than the divorce papers, and Barack Sr. may not have even been the biological father.

Robinson smears Gingrich as “unhinged,” but two years after the election Robinson has still not seen his way through the “improbable love” mythology. Given this failure, it is hard to take anything he says about Obama seriously.

In fact, the most critical person in Obama’s development was not his illusory father, but his very real mother. In Dreams, Ann is described as a “lonely witness for secular humanism, a soldier for New Deal, Peace Corps, position-paper liberalism.” It showed.

In a critical but overlooked scene in Dreams, when Obama’s Indonesian stepfather, Lolo Soetoro, asks his wife to meet some of “her own people” at the American oil company where he worked, she snaps at him, “They are not my people.” Mom raised the young Obama to be wary of the “ugly Americans” in their midst. The only thing exceptional about America, she taught him, was Barry Obama himself.

After returning to Hawaii at the age of ten, Obama was mentored by people who shared his mother’s biases, most critically the communist poet and pornographer, Frank Marshall Davis. Upon hitting the mainland as a college freshman, Obama surrounded himself with like-minded souls. “I chose my friends carefully,” he writes in Dreams, “The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists and punk-rock performance poets.”

In the shaping of the worldview on display in Dreams, no mentor would be more influential than Ayers. In the Forbes article, D’Souza ignores Ayers completely. This is a grave oversight. As I have contested in these pages and will prove beyond doubt in my forthcoming book, Deconstructing Obama, Ayers provided the structure for Dreams, much of its content and all of its style.”

Barack Obama’s Brother to Make Film Debut in Anti-Obama Documentary (Exclusive Video)

    The Hollywood Reporter
    Paul Bond
    7/9/2012

    Excerpt:

An interview with George Obama, who lives in a hut in Kenya “like something out of ‘Slumdog Millionaire'” is featured in the upcoming movie “2016: Obama’s America.”

Barack Obama’s half-brother, George Obama, is about to make his film debut, and in a feature-length documentary that is critical of the president, no less.

In the movie, 2016: Obama’s America, based on Dinesh D’Souza’s best-selling book The Roots of Obama’s Rage, D’Souza refers to a news report four years ago about George Obama living in a hut in Nairobi, Kenya, “like something out of Slumdog Millionaire.” He’s intrigued, so he tracks him down.

In the film clip embedded above, D’Souza and George Obama are seen chatting on what appears to be a park bench, and D’Souza seems most curious to know why the half-brother of the most powerful man on the planet lives in poverty and without any financial help from President Obama.

“I think he has a family of his own,” George Obama says. “I’m a member of his family, but I’m over-age, so I help myself.”

D’Souza presses him by using the Biblical admonition – one that the president has also cited — that Americans ought to be “our brother’s keeper,” and George Obama shrugs off that insinuation, as well.

“He’s got other issues to deal with,” he says. “He’s taking care of the world, so he’s taking care of me.”

The focus of the movie, though, is the alleged anger at colonialism that President Obama inherited from his (and George’s) father.

As D’Souza puts it in the book: “This philandering, inebriated African socialist, who raged against the world for denying him the realization of his anti-colonial ambitions, is now setting the nation’s agenda through the reincarnation of his dreams in his son.”

D’Souza, therefore, presses that theory with George Obama, and seems to get agreement from him, as the president’s brother argues that Kenya has fallen behind since its independence.

D’Souza clearly enjoys getting to know George Obama and at one point during the interview (though not in the above clip), he jokes that America elected the wrong Obama to be its president.

George Obama is the youngest of several children that Barack Obama, Sr. had with his four wives. He co-wrote a book in 2010, and D’Souza tracked him down through its publisher. D’Souza told The Hollywood Reporter that he met George Obama at a hotel in Nairobi and then they toured his village in Huruma Flats, spending about 12 hours together.

“George is the rebel in Obama’s family. He’s the black sheep,” says D’Souza, who has penned several right-leaning books, such as Letters to a Young Conservative and What’s So Great About America.

“George doesn’t go along with the worship of the father and he is politically incorrect on a lot of topics,” says D’Souza. “And he’s particularly interesting because he lives in rubble on a few dollars a day while his powerful, multimillionaire brother doesn’t lift a finger to help him.”

Obama Documentary Featuring President’s Brother Opens Big at Box Office (Exclusive)

    The Hollywood Reporter
    Paul Bond
    7/15/2012

    Excerpt:

“2016: Obama’s America” features an interview with the president’s brother and opened in a single theater in Texas over the weekend, where it grossed an impressive estimated $31,750.

An anti-Obama documentary featuring an interview with the president’s brother opened in a single theater in Texas over the weekend and, despite alleged complaints from some consumers who were upset with the film’s content, it grossed an estimated $31,750, a strong showing for any independent release.

The film, 2016: Obama’s America, based on conservative author Dinesh D’Souza’s book The Roots of Obama’s Rage, had a free, promotional screening at Edwards Houston Marq’E Stadium 23 & Imax on Thursday.Management had planned to show it in one of its medium-sized auditoriums, but bumped it to one the multiplex’s largest rooms and turned away 200 people.

Sources say some moviegoers sat in the aisles Thursday and waited as much as 90 minutes to meet D’Souza and Gerald Molen, one of the Oscar-winning producers of Schindler’s List, who was a co-producer of 2016 along with Doug Sain. For some of its regular showings over the weekend, the theater offered 2016 on multiple screens, including three sold-out auditoriums for the 7 p.m. Friday showing.

If the weekend estimate from the movie’s distributor, Rocky Mountain Pictures, holds when final numbers are reported Monday, the film will have bested the per-theater number posted by the Al Gore documentary about global warming, An Inconvenient Truth, which opened to $123,549 in four theaters in 2006 for a per-theater average of $30,887.

That film, which had the benefit of a mainstream distributor in Paramount Vantage and, eventually, two Oscar wins, went on to earn $24 million domestically. The box-office record for politically-charged documentaries is held by Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11, which grossed $119 million domestically in 2004. It opened on a Wednesday, in just two theaters, taking in $83,922 on its first day, for a one-day, per-theater average of $41,961. Still, for any documentary to pass the $25,000-per-theater mark on its opening weekend represents an unusually strong showing, according to box office observers.”

  7. Bruce says:

We saw the new movie, ‘2016: Obama’s America’ at the 5 pm matinee yesterday and I highly recommend it.

I think the film was extremely well crafted, and it is informative and appropriately designed for appeal to a wide audience. Attendance at the time we viewed the movie seemed ‘reasonably good’ to me, considering it was a late afternoon showing on a normal ‘workday’.

‘2016’ is intended for viewing by a very broad audience and D’Souza, justifiably I believe, does not cover any of the many complicated POTUS-eligibility issues associated with Obama. However, I think the film will do a GREAT job of ‘revealing’ much of Obama’s true, intentionally hidden, ‘anti-colonialism-oriented’ personality to the many, many Americans who perhaps have not, up to now, been paying close enough attention to the unprecedented dangers we are facing.

Thus, even though the film does not cover the POTUS-eligibility issue directly, concerned and intelligent people will come away with the definite conclusion that OBAMA IS NOT A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN, as envisioned by our founding fathers who drafted Article II of the U.S. Constitution. That is, he is NOT one of us, and a SERIOUS ERROR was made in allowing him on the ballot in 2008!

See the movie! Tell your friends!

    The Movie: “Obama’s America – 2016

    A Review by TPATH

    TPATHhttp://www.tpath.org/
    Dwight Kehoe
    8/18/2012

“As most of us know by now “2016” has been showing only in limited locations and for very abbreviated time frames. It is not clear why, but it may have something to do with liberal fear of the truth.

Yesterday morning I went to New Brunswick for a 10:40 am showing of this film even though there are probably 70 or 80 movie theaters between my home and New Brunswick, none of which are showing this movie.

I got seated early so I could watch the people as they came in, if in fact there would be any at that time of the morning. Typical of what one would expect, the crowd was mostly senior citizen types.

Now, the movie. To be honest I expected the see something on the order of the typical documentary we are all so familiar with when produced by the left. Filled with half truths, lies and innuendo. There was none of that.

As an avid Obama opponent I thought I knew pretty much all there was to know about this guy. I was mistaken.

The movie was done in an extremely entertaining way with footage from around the world and filled with information and history that most Americans have no clue of.

Watching this movie, as much as I despise what Obama stands for and what he has done and continues to do to my America, there were times that even I felt a small twinge of sympathy for Obama. He of course, early on, had no choice as to who he would become.

He was subjected to the teachings of Marxists, Communists, racists, anti-colonialists and terrorists from his earliest days.

Over the years I have come to understand that there are two basic “types” of people that call themselves, Democrats. There are those hardworking, not only blue collar people but also professionals who were born into the Democratic family and will die that way. Those people are not the wacky lefties or the intellectual Marxists that have run that party over the last decade or so.

The wonderful thing about this movie, it is not a hit piece, it is not vindictive and it works very hard to get every fact out, truthfully and even relates some leftist skepticism.

The Democrats referenced in the paragraph above, can go to this movie, not feel like they or their views are being castigated or demeaned. After watching this movie, it is extremely doubtful that anyone who loves this country, Democrat, Republican or Libertarian, would be able to find themselves voting for Obama a second time.

In fact, I’m not sure but it looked like one fellow couldn’t wait to get home before removing his Obama bumper sticker. At least I think that that was his car.”

GIVE US LIBERTY Review of Dinesh D’Souza’s “2016 : Obama’s America”

    Give Us Liberty
    Gary Wilmott
    8/19/2012

    Excerpt:

“I saw Dinesh D’Souza’s movie ‘2016: Obama’s America’ last night. I went by myself to the 9:00 pm showing at a local theater in Thousand Oaks, CA. I counted about 50 patrons; the vast majority over 50 years of age.

I am always reluctant to be overly critical of anyone’s artistic endeavors as I often ask myself, “Could you have done a better job?” From a creative standpoint however, it was very well done. The documentary was slickly presented, well-photographed and I especially liked the creative graphics employed throughout the movie. The pace was good and the story while flawed in my view, held my attention. In fact many times I found that my blood pressure would rise and at times I felt compelled to blurt out loud, “Liar!”, “Fraud!”, “Traitor!” when the usurper’s image dominated the screen and he was engaged in some typically mendacious activity. There was no similar reaction by the rest of the audience until very late in the movie when there were a few snickers and derisive comments that probably were the result feeling emboldened by my prior outbursts.

On the whole, I must say that I was disappointed that the movie did not live up to my expectations – at all. I did not find the movie to be particularly compelling or hard-hitting, probably because I am well-versed in the story and so much was not covered, glossed over or misinterpreted. D’Souza could have painted a much grimmer and more realistic take on what is really happening to America today. The message is there…but it is lacking the honesty I expected.

While I knew that the eligibility issue would not be addressed, I was profoundly disappointed that D’Souza presented as FACTS that Obama was born in Hawaii, at Kapiolani Hospital and that his birth father was in fact the Kenyan, Barack Obama Sr. In addition, D’Souza gives every impression that he fully buys in to the fact that Obama wrote “Dreams From My Father” and accepts the content as factual. Talk about naïve!

Of course, the idea that Barack Obama Sr. is the usurper’s father is an essential premise to the movie and D’Souza hammers home the idea that the Kenyan was an incredibly important influence on Obama’s view of the world. I personally find that to be a gross overstatement of the real truth given all the research that is “out there”. Unfortunately, this is an assumption by D’Souza that HAS NOT been substantiated and there are a myriad of reasons to doubt the veracity of some of D’Souza’s claims. From that standpoint I believe D’Souza has been less than stellar in his research. In fact, I felt that D’Souza exhibited a great deal of naivety about Obama.

I agree with others, that D’Souza moderated his tone for the most part and tried to be objective. It certainly was not a hit piece on Obama but rather a cautionary tale to the American people that Obama was not and is not the person that the he presented himself to be in 2008. And of course, D’Souza does make it very clear that Obama poses an existential threat to the American way of life, our prosperity and our safety. There is no question about that.

    Dinesh D’Souza is Barack Obama’s Brother’s Keeper

    Lubbock Avalance-Journal, LubbockOnline
    ‘may’
    8/22/2012

George Obama is the half brother of President Barack Obama. George lives in poverty in a Nairobi, Kenya, slum. George lives in a shack on a few dollars a month and apparently has never received financial aid from his very rich brother who lives a luxurious lifestyle as President of the United States of America.

Last week George Obama needed $1,000 to pay for the medical bills of his sick child. George Obama called Dinesh D’Souza for help because George apparently had no one else he could ask for help. Dinesh D’Souza wrote,
    —-
“A few days ago I received a call from a man I recently met named George. He was a bit flustered, and soon informed me that his young son was sick with a chest condition. He pleaded with me to send him $1,000 to cover the medical bills. Since George was at the hospital I asked him to let me speak to a nurse, and she confirmed that George’s son was indeed ill. So I agreed to send George the money through Western Union. He was profusely grateful. But before I hung up I asked George, “Why are you coming to me?” He said, “I have no one else to ask.” Then he said something that astounded me, “Dinesh, you are like a brother to me.”

Actually, George has a real life brother who just happens to be the president of the United States. (George Obama is the youngest of eight children sired by Barack Obama Sr.) George’s brother is a multimillionaire and the most powerful man in the world. Moreover, George’s brother has framed his re-election campaign around the “fair share” theme that we owe obligations to those who are less fortunate.

One of Obama’s favorite phrases comes right out of the Bible: “We are our brother’s keeper.” Yet he has not contributed a penny to help his own brother. And evidently George does not believe, even in times of emergency, that he can turn to his brother in the White House for help. ”
    —-
Dinesh D’Souza goes on to explain that Barack Obama ignores his half-brother and denies him a visa to visit the United States because George Obama is a Conservative and does not agree with the Marxist goals of Barack Obama or the dreams of their common biological father. D’Souza went on to explain,
    —-
“Obama’s refusal to help George is especially surprising because George doesn’t just live in American-style poverty but rather in Third World poverty. He lives in a shanty in the Huruma slum in Nairobi. He gets by on a few dollars a month. Obama also has an aunt named Hawa Auma, his father’s sister, who ekes out a living selling coal on the streets of a small village in Kenya. She says she would like to have her teeth fixed, but she cannot afford it. Obama hasn’t offered to help her either.

So what’s the real story here? Where’s George Obama’s “fair share”? George’s tragic situation exposes President Obama as a hypocrite. Here is a man who demands that others pay higher taxes to help the poor—even poor people who are not related to them—while Obama himself refuses to help a close relative like George.

Yet I believe there is a deeper explanation that goes beyond hypocrisy for why Obama wants nothing to do with George. After all, it would cost Obama so little to raise George out of poverty, and yet he won’t do it. This isn’t mere negligence; it suggests an active animus. The reason for that animus emerges in George’s book and also in my interview with George in the film 2016. In that interview, George rejects the anti-colonial philosophy that was espoused by Barack Obama Sr. This is the “dream from my father” that President Obama celebrates in his own autobiography.

From the record of their lives and writings, it’s clear that Barack Obama Sr. and Barack Obama Jr. both share the anti-colonial view that blames Western colonial exploitation for the poverty and suffering of the Third World. Yet George doesn’t buy it. He observes that at the time of its independence in the early 1960s “Kenya was on an economic par with Malaysia or Singapore. Look where we are now, and where they are. They’re practically developed and industrialized, while Kenya is still a basket case.” George believes that poor countries should take responsibility for their own situation. “What’s our excuse for failure? We don’t have one. We’ve only got ourselves to blame.”

Incredible though it seems, George Obama is, within the context of his own society, a conservative. He doesn’t worship at the shrine of Barack Obama Sr. and he espouses an ideology diametrically opposed to that of his father and his famous brother. George has experienced first-hand the empty rhetoric of the two Baracks, and he rejects it based on his actual experience of Third World poverty.

No wonder President Obama despises George, doesn’t want him around, doesn’t care to hear George’s views circulated in America, and won’t lift a finger to help him even when George’s son is in the hospital.”

Box Office Report: Anti-Obama Doc Drawing Big Crowds, Even in New York City

    The Hollywood Reporter
    Pamela McClintock
    8/21/2012

    Excerpt:

“Already the No. 2-grossing non-nature documentary of the year, “2016: Obama’s America” expands nationwide this weekend.

An anti-Barack Obama documentary based on conservative author Dinesh D’Souza’s book The Roots of Obama’s Rage will expand nationwide this weekend after doing notable business in select markets across the country — including in liberal-minded New York City.

Overall, 2016: Obama’s America grossed an impressive $1.2 million last weekend as it upped its theater count from 61 to 169 for a total gross of $2 million, the second-best showing of the year for a documentary after Bully ($3.2 million). That doesn’t include nature documentaries Chimpanzee ($29 million) and To the Arctic ($7.6 million).

It’s already the No. 12 political documentary of all time — a market that Michael Moore has cornered — as well as the No. 2 conservative documentary after Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed ($7.7 million).

On Friday, Obama’s America, co-directed by D’Souza and John Sullivan, will be playing in 1,075 theaters in an aggressive expansion that comes on the eve of the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., which gets underway Aug. 27.

Obama’s America, distributed by Rocky Mountain Pictures, first began rolling out in mid-July and has been adding theaters slowly. On Aug. 10, it opened in a number of markets, including New York and Los Angeles (including the conservative Simi Valley).

Some in Hollywood were stumped by the amount of business the documentary did at the Regal Union Square Stadium 14 in Lower Manhattan, situated in a liberal neighborhood where films from the likes of Moore have done huge business.

Obama’s America was the No. 3 film of the weekend behind The Dark Knight Rises and Total Recall at Union Square, prompting at least one film executive to joke that people must have thought it was a pro-Obama documentary (New York is the No. 1 city when it comes to the amount of giving to the Obama campaign).

Moreover, Union Square turned in the second-best gross of any theater in the country after a multiplex in Simi Valley.

Last weekend, Obama’s America fell only 40 percent at the Union Square theater.

Obama’s America intends to show how the country’s future will look if President Obama is elected to a second term in the White House and includes an interview with the president’s half brother, George Obama.

“I think the reason why the film is doing so well is threefold: We’ve expanded into good markets, we’ve been advertising nationally for two weeks on talk radio and television news channels including Fox News Channel, A&E, History and MSNBC,” Sullivan told The Hollywood Reporter.

    D’Souza’s ‘2016’ Unearths Obama’s Rage

    Newsmax
    Thomas Sowell
    8/22/2012

    Excerpt:

“Years, and sometimes decades, pass between my visits to movie theaters. But I drove 30 miles to see the movie “2016,” based on Dinesh D’Souza’s best-selling book “The Roots of Obama’s Rage.” Where I live is so politically correct that such a movie would not even be mentioned, much less shown.

Every seat in the theater was filled, even though there had been an earlier showing that day, and more showings were scheduled for the rest of the afternoon and evening. I had to sit on a staircase in the balcony, but it was worth it.

The audience was riveted. You could barely hear a sound from them, or detect a movement, and certainly not smell popcorn. Yet the movie had no bombast, no violence, no sex, and no spectacular visual effects.

The documentary itself was fascinating, as Dinesh D’Souza presented the story of Barack Obama’s life and view of the world, in a very conversational sort of way, illustrating it with visits to people and places around the world that played a role in the way Obama’s ideas and beliefs evolved.

It was refreshing to see how addressing adults as adults could be effective, in an age when so many parts of the media address the public as if they were children who need a constant whirlwind of sounds and movements to keep them interested.

Dinesh D’Souza’s own perspective, as someone born in India who came to America and became an American, provided a special insight into the way people from the Third World often perceive or misperceive the United States and the Western world.

That Third World perspective is Obama’s perspective, D’Souza demonstrates in this documentary, as in his book — and it is a perspective that is very foreign to that of most Americans, which may be why some believe that Obama was born elsewhere.

D’Souza is convinced that the president was born in Hawaii, as he claims, but argues that not only Obama’s time living in Indonesia and his emotionally charged visits to his father’s home in Africa, have had a deep and impassioned effect on his thinking.

The story of Barack Obama, however, is not just the story of how one man came to be the way he is. It is a much larger story about how millions of Americans came to vote for, and some to idolize, a man whose fundamental beliefs and values are so different from their own.

For every person who sees Obama as somehow foreign there are many others who see him as a mainstream American political figure — and an inspiring one.

This D’Souza attributes to Barack Obama’s great talents in rhetoric, and his ability to project an image that resonates with most Americans, however much that image may differ from, or even flatly contradict, the reality of Obama’s own ideological view of the world.

    What is that ideological view?

The Third World, or anti-colonial, view is that the rich nations have gotten rich by taking wealth from the poor nations. It is part of a much larger vision, in which the rich in general have gotten rich by taking from the poor, whether in their own country or elsewhere.

Whatever its factual weaknesses, it is an emotionally powerful vision, to which many people have dedicated their lives, and for which some have even risked their lives. Some of these people appear in this documentary movie, as they have appeared throughout the formative phases of Barack Obama’s life.

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright is just the most visible and vocal of a long line of such people who played crucial roles in Obama’s evolution. When Jeremiah Wright thundered about how “white folks’ greed runs a world in need,” he captured the essence of the Third World or anti-colonial vision.

But many of the other mentors, allies, family, and friends of Barack Obama over the years were of the same mindset, as this documentary demonstrates.”

Movie Review: 2016 Obama’s America; A Must See Movie For Every American Voter

    Birther Report

    Excerpt:

    Movie: 2016 Obama’s America — I saw the movie.
Very well done. A must see movie for every American voter
    By CDR Charles Kerchner (Ret)

“Movie: 2016 Obama’s America. I saw the movie Sunday evening. Other than the film not mentioning that many contest that Obama was physically born in Hawaii and that he could have been simply registered as born in Hawaii using lax Hawaiian birth registration laws and also not mentioning the challenges to Obama’s constitutional eligibility due to his father not being a U.S. Citizen, it was very well done. Since the place of birth and eligibility issues were not the subject of this movie the far left will not be able to spew out and tag the typical “birther” label to it that they try to put on anything and everything that challenges Obama’s story. What this movie does do is clearly and dramatically enlightens the viewer as to what makes Obama tick and that we have a very dangerous, anti-western civilization, anti-American occupying the Oval Office and in charge of our military. Obama’s vision and dreams for America’s future is not our founders’ vision and dreams for America’s future! It’s a must see movie before November 6th for every American voter!”

Anti-Obama Film Set to Become Box Office Hit

    ABC News
    David Wright
    8/30/2012

    Excerpt:

“It’s rare that a low-budget documentary becomes a genuine blockbuster, but conservative firebrand Dinesh D’Souza’s controversial new film, “2016: Obama’s America,” is one of the hottest tickets at the box office right now.

“I’m overwhelmed,” D’Souza said. “This is my first venture into film territory.”

The film is now showing in more than 1,000 theaters, and that number is expected to double by Friday, which would put the movie’s release on par with a major Hollywood blockbuster. Last weekend, “2016” was already earning more money per screen than “The Bourne Legacy” and “The Expendables 2” — combined. The film has grossed an estimated $10.5 million to date, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.

D’Souza’s controversial screed makes the case that President Obama has a secret un-American agenda. He claims the president is desperate to fulfill the anti-colonial dreams of his late father, a man Obama barely knew, and that he is intentionally trying to diminish America’s power abroad. D’Souza makes the case that by 2016, a second Obama term would inexorably lead to an utter collapse of the United States’ economy and the rise of a United States of Islam, led by a nuclear-armed Iran.

“I think he would like to see America have a small economy, use less energy, he’d like to see money redistributed away from America, towards the rest of the world,” D’Souza told Nightline at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, where delegates have been an especially receptive audience.

In the movie, D’Souza stalks his way through the president’s life story, retracing the sojourn Obama took in his bestselling memoir, “Dreams From My Father,” but with a totally different spin. D’Souza attempts to turn the narrative upon which Obama has built his political career against him.

Many have dismissed the film and the bestselling book upon which it is based, “The Roots of Obama’s Rage,” as conspiracy theory. But D’Souza insists he’s being scholarly and fair-minded.

“We hold Obama accountable for what he actually not only wrote, but actually recorded in audio books,” D’Souza said.”

’2016 Obama’s America’ Filmmaker Reacts To President’s Slam; Looking For Network To Air Before Election; Says Mainstream Media Refusing Coverage

    Deadline Hollywood
    Dominic Patten
    9/11/2012

    Excerpt:

’2016: Obama’s America’ Docu Slammed By President’s Campaign As “Lies”

BREAKING… EXCLUSIVE: Dinesh D’Souza is the conservative author of the best-seller The Roots Of Obama’s Rage which was the basis for the #2 political documentary of all time 2016 Obama’s America. He is also its co-director. He answers today’s slam on the film by the Obama-Biden campaign, which comes just as the movie is hot in battleground states and its producers are looking for a network to air it before the November election. D’Souza attacks the mainstream media for “refusing” coverage:

DEADLINE: What is your reaction to today’s Obama-Biden campaign slam of 2016 Obama’s America??

DINESH D’SOUZA: “I welcome Obama’s critique of the film. He has probably figured out that he cannot ignore it any longer. Obama’s response is a characteristic mix of name calling and false allegations. Some of the claims he makes refer to things that are not even in the film. Elsewhere Obama just gets it wrong. For example, he disputes that he funded $2 billion in Brazilian oil exploration. In reality, Obama has given billions of dollars not only to Brazil but also to Colombia and Mexico to drill for oil. On March 19, 2011, Obama gave a speech in Brazil in which he deplored the legacy of colonialism, promised technology and support for Brazilian energy development, and concluded “when you are ready to start selling we want to be one of your best customers”. The facts in the film stand up very well to the closest scrutiny. I think people should see 2016 and make up their own minds.

DEADLINE: What do you think of the criticism the film has received?

D’SOUZA: The criticism of the film actually bothers me less than the neglect of the film. If I were Michael Moore and I were to make a film that was the No. 2 political documentary of all time, I would be on every network. I would be on Meet The Press, and I would be profiled in The New York Times, and I would be all over MSNBC. Instead large sectors of the press are refusing to cover the film. They are just pretending it doesn’t exist.

DEADLINE: What is your response to charges that you are simply an anti-Obama propagandist?

D’SOUZA: I tried very hard with this film to make an intelligent film with credible sources and new information. I’m a college president [D’Souza in 2010 was named the president of The King’s College, a Christian college located in New York City], I’ve been a fellow at the Hoover Institution and at the American Enterprise Institute, so what is kind of funny is in a guy like Michael Moore we have a true propagandist and a true conspiracy theorist. A guy who is fast and loose with the facts. My film was to some degree inspired by Fahrenheit 9/11. In the sense that I remember that Michael Moore dropped that film in the middle of the 2004 campaign and it had a big impact. But nevertheless, I set out to make very different type of film than Michael Moore. One that is, first of all, not just preaching to the converted. And second, one that doesn’t insult the intelligence of the audience. And I really think that is actually a large part also of the film’s appeal. That even though the left says it’s propaganda, it’s a risky attack on the film because when people go to see it, they actually see whether they agree or disagree that it is not propaganda. Whatever your politics, you are going to come away from this film saying at least, “Hey, I do know a whole bunch of things about Obama I didn’t know 90 minutes ago.”

DEADLINE: How do you respond to claims that the film is racist?

D’SOUZA: There have been some factual attempts to puncture the film but those I think have not worked. So now we have the sleezeball attack. Basically an attempt to blacken my name and imply the film is some sort of a birther type film, which it most emphatically is not, or to suggest that there is some racial element in the film. Whereas in reality I go out of my way to diffuse the race issue to say this is not about race. What Obama is about, in my opinion, is he is a Global redistributionist. He’s pursuing reparations but it’s not racial reparations. It’s global reparations for the sins and conquest of colonism. So the film is manifestly not racial. Now it does explain that part of Obama’s appeal is that he, you know, offers White America the certificate of racial absolution, if you will. That he makes people feel good about voting for him, as if by doing that they are somehow transcending America’s racial past. …But that hardly makes the film a racial film. That’s simply part of the film’s intelligent analysis of what’s going on out there.

DEADLINE: You have been accused of saying that the President doesn’t have America’s best interests at heart.

D’SOUZA: Look, what I say is it’s not that Obama hates America. It’s not that he’s a traitor, that he’s a secret Muslim, that he’s a Manchurian Candidate. He simply subscribes to an ideology that thinks it would be good for America to have a diminished economy and a diminished role in the world. In other words, Obama is all about what he perceives as global justice. And global justice to him means a redistribution of wealth and power away from America and towards the rest of the world. That’s his ideology. He thinks it would be good for America to have a humbler role in the world. He thinks it would be good for America not to be No. 1 but to be No. 18 or No. 34 in the world. It’s part of his vision of global justice. Nowhere do I question his motives or say that he is a bad guy. Rather what I’m saying is these are his beliefs, this is his ideology.

DEADLINE: Why do you think the film has been successful at the box office?

D’SOUZA: I’ve been pleasantly surprised and thrilled by its success which I attribute to the deep hunger on the part of people for factual information about Obama, combined with a sense that the full story about Obama is not out there, combined with an intuitive sense that the mainstream media has not been doing its job in fully vetting Obama. So when people watch the film there is a powerful sense of “Wow, I didn’t know all this stuff” and “Why didn’t I know all this stuff because this information is really valuable in helping me think about Obama and the future of this country?” I also attribute it to the riveting Obama story. Obama has a fascinating story. I think there’s almost an element of Greek drama here of a boy who is left, abandoned by his father and goes on an odyssey to find his father and to find himself. I think it’s the storytelling element of the film that is part of makes it so effective. I wanted to make a film that didn’t look like a TV documentary but looked more like Out Of Africa. A beautiful shot film that would take you from Hawaii to Chicago to Indonesia to Kenya to tell the Obama story. So I feel very good about the quality of the film.”

D’Souza, ‘2016’ Receives Standing Ovation in Chicago

    Washington Times
    William Kelly
    9/24/2012

    Excerpt:

“CHICAGO, September 24, 2012 — This isn’t Texas or conservative Mississippi. This is the progressive enclave of Chicago, Illinois, birthplace of the “Chicago Way” and the adopted hometown of President Barack Obama.

And it is this Chicago – now only a month or so out before the critical 2012 presidential election – that received filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza with a spontaneous standing ovation Saturday after seeing the film, “2016: Obama’s America.”

This weekend, “2016” hit the $32 million mark, earning it a coveted distinction: top grossing documentary of the year and the second biggest political documentary of all time.

Fans and foes alike agree that it is D’Souza that is to blame for the film’s success.

It is an artistically compelling – if controversial – approach that weaves D’Souza’s personal experiences growing up in Mumbai, India with a disturbing psychoanalysis of Obama’s words from the memoir, “Dreams from My Father.”

D’Souza’s conclusion: Obama’s dream is to fulfill the anti-colonialist mission of his father. A mission that seems contrary, even hostile, to American self-interest and preservation.

D’Souza was in Chicago this weekend for a special public screening of his film and Q&A with Chicagoans at the Gene Siskel Film Center. The event was hosted by Chicago-based FreeCapitalismNow.com.

Ironically, it was just a few blocks away from here that then candidate Barack Obama declared his presidential victory to thousands of adoring, screaming fans in Grant Park.

But Chicagoans were not cheering for Obama this weekend, they were cheering for D’Souza.

Some came out of curiosity; others because they were disillusioned.

Still others came because they wanted to see D’Souza unfiltered by the media and critical denunciations of ‘2016.’

Chicago, like many other U.S. cities, is not a monolith: Many are disappointed with what they perceive to be the failure of the Obama Presidency.

A recent Chicago poll reveals that Obama retains a 60-29 lead over Romney. But Romney leads 45-38 in Chicago’s voter-rich suburban areas.”

D’Souza Can’t Quite Accept the Real Obama

    American Thinker
    Jack Cashill
    10/2/2012

    Excerpt:

“In 2016: Obama’s America, the most successful and artful conservative documentary to date, author and producer Dinesh D’Souza takes a step closer to exposing the real Barack Obama. To get there, however, he will have to remove the obstacles he has set in his own way.

“Obama came out of nowhere,” says D’Souza at the film’s beginning. “No one really knew him.” The reason why no one knew him was simple enough. Obama discouraged the media from looking. The major media obliged, and their conservative counterparts in New York and Washington, fearing ridicule, honored this absurd gentleman’s agreement.

D’Souza was one such gentleman. A Dartmouth grad, he shows up regularly on TV talk shows and serves now as president of King’s College in New York City. As such, he cannot afford to stray too far from approved paths. In 2016, D’Souza takes a calculated step off that path, and for that I commend him and recommend the film.

“There a lot of mysterious black holes around Obama,” D’Souza told Denver radio host Peter Boyles last week.

Although the film is a serious improvement over the book on which it is based, The Roots of Obama’s Rage, D’Souza stubbornly refuses to explore some of those holes.

In the book, D’Souza argued that that Barack Obama, Sr. was “first and foremost” an anti-colonialist and that his son was, too. Both assertions are arguably true. What is not true, but what was absolutely essential to D’Souza’s thesis, is that Obama inherited the philosophy and its attendant rage from his absent father. The movie, happily, gives us a broader look at Obama’s formation, including an expanded role for his grandfather; his mother, Ann Dunham; and his communist mentor, Frank Marshall Davis.

Unhappily, the thesis of D’Souza’s book and movie rests on a series of false premises. In the book, there is remarkably little talk about Obama’s mother, Ann Dunham. The reader sees her only as “Obama Sr.’s first convert” to anti-colonialism. “Obama’s mother made sure that her son chose the direction of his biological father,” D’Souza writes. “And her preference sunk in.”

To make his case, D’Souza tells the reader of Ann’s “white-bread upbringing in the Midwest” but fully ignores her adolescent evolution in Seattle into a garden-variety leftist with an anti-American grudge. That she met Obama Sr. in Russian class tells us where Ann was heading even before they met.

In the new introduction to the paperback of Obama’s Rage, D’Souza elaborates, “Repeatedly, unceasingly, [Ann] convinced her son that he should develop his father’s values and identity in imitation of the senior Obama.” According to D’Souza, Obama shares this fact with the reader in both of his books, the acclaimed 1995 memoir Dreams from My Father and the 2006 policy book The Audacity of Hope.

This is simply false. In Audacity, the mother never talks about the father. The closest we get is this: “I knew him only through the letters he sent and the stories my mother and grandparents told.” What is more, we learn that the values Ann shared with Obama were not his father’s, but those of the American civil rights movement. “Whenever the opportunity presented itself,” Obama writes, “she would drill into me the values that she saw there: tolerance, equality, standing up for the disadvantaged.”

In the more biographical Dreams, Obama’s mother and grandparents try to make the fatherless son proud of his heritage, but the stories they tell are of a bold, flamboyant, larger-than-life African prince, not of an anti-colonialist flamethrower.

Ann had little idea what Obama Sr.’s anti-colonial views may have been. The evidence suggests a relationship between her and Obama Sr. not much deeper than a one-night stand. As is solidly documented, Ann and young Barry showed up in Seattle weeks after Obama’s August 1961 birth and lived there for about a year while Obama Sr. remained in Hawaii.

D’Souza cannot yet to come to terms with this. In the movie, he flirts with fraud in his continued insistence that, despite all evidence, Obama Sr. and Ann lived together for a year. Last week on KHOW in Denver, Boyles challenged D’Souza on this issue.”
