An America First Korea Policy

An America First Korea Policy

“The North Korean regime is causing tremendous problems and is something that has to be dealt with, and probably dealt with rapidly.”

So President Trump told reporters in the Rose Garden this week.

But how this is to be done “rapidly” is not so easy to see.

North Korea has just returned to us Otto Warmbier, a student sentenced to 15 years hard labor for stealing a propaganda poster. Otto came home comatose, and died within days.

Trump’s conundrum: How to keep such a regime from acquiring an ICBM with a nuclear warhead, which Kim Jong Un is determined to do.

Having seen us attack Iraq and Libya, which had no nukes, Kim believes that only nuclear weapons that can hit America can deter America. He appears willing to risk war to achieve his goal.

Trump’s options as he meets South Korean President Moon Jae-in?

First, the decapitation of the Kim dynasty. But the U.S. has been unable to accomplish regime change for the 64 years following the Korean War. And killing Kim could ignite a war.

Then there is a U.S. pre-emptive strike on North Korea’s nuclear sites and missile arsenals. But this would surely mean a war in which Americans on the DMZ would be among the first to die, as thousands of North Korean artillery and mortar tubes fired into the suburbs and city of Seoul, which is as close as Dulles Airport is to the White House.

Asked by Congressman Tim Ryan why we don’t launch a war to end this threat, Defense Secretary James Mattis replied that, while we might “win … at great cost,” such a war would “involve the massive shelling of an ally’s capital … one of the most densely packed cities on earth.”

Seoul has a metro-area population of 25 million.

We are thus approaching a point where we accept North Korea having a nuclear weapon that can reach Seattle, or we attack its strategic arsenal and bring on a war in which millions could die.

What about sanctions?

The only nation that could impose sufficient hardships on North Korea to imperil the regime is China. But China refuses to impose the Draconian sanctions that might destabilize the regime, and might bring Korean refugees flooding into China. And Beijing has no desire to see Kim fall and Korea united under a regime aligned with the United States.

What FDR said of one Caribbean dictator, the Chinese are probably saying of Kim Jong Un, “He may be an SOB, but he’s our SOB.”

Early in his presidency, Trump gave the franchise for dealing with the North Korean threat to Beijing. But his friend Xi Jinping has either failed Trump or declined to deliver.

As for President Moon, he wants to negotiate, to engage the North economically, to invite its athletes to join South Koreans on joint teams for the Winter Olympics in 2018. Moreover, Moon is said to be willing to cut back on joint military exercises with the U.S. and regards the THAAD missile defense we introduced into South Korea as a negotiable item.

China, whose missile launches can be detected by THAAD radar, wants it removed and has so informed South Korea.

Where does this leave us?

We are committed to go to war to defend the South and have 28,000 troops there. But South Korea wants to negotiate with North Korea and is prepared to make concessions to buy peace.

As the nation that would suffer most in any second Korean War, South Korea has the sovereign right to play the hand. But what Seoul considers best for South Korea is not necessarily best for us.

What would be an America First Korean policy?

The U.S. would give Seoul notice that we will, by a date certain, be dissolving our mutual security treaty and restoring our full freedom to decide whether or not to fight in a new Korean War. Given the present risk of war, possibly involving nuclear weapons, it is absurd that we should be obligated to fight what Mattis says would be a “catastrophic” war, because of a treaty negotiated six decades ago by Eisenhower and Dulles.

“The commonest error in politics,” Lord Salisbury reminded us, “is sticking to the carcass of dead policies.”

But we should also tell South Korea that if she desires a nuclear deterrent against an attack by the North, she should build it. Americans should not risk a nuclear war, 8,000 miles away, to defend a South Korea that has 40 times the economy of the North and twice the population.

No vital U.S. interest requires us, in perpetuity, to be willing to go to war to defend South Korea, especially if that war entails the risk of a nuclear attack on U.S. troops or the American homeland.

If the United States did not have a mutual security pact that obligates us to defend South Korea against a nuclear-armed North, would President Trump be seeking to negotiate such a treaty?

The question answers itself.

FLASHBACK: Ten Basic Forms Of Fake News Used By Major Media

FLASHBACK: Ten Basic Forms Of Fake News Used By Major Media

Basic purpose is the presentation of a false picture of reality

Infowars
by Joe Rappoport
6/29/2017

Excerpt:

You could find more forms, or divide these ten into sub-categories.

The ten basic forms are:

Direct lying about matters of fact. (This sometimes includes doubling down on lies already told, or telling a bigger lie after the first one.)

Leaving out vital information.

Limited hangout. (This is an admission of a crime or a mistake, which only partially reveals the whole truth. The idea is that by admitting a fraction of what really happened and burying the biggest revelations, people will be satisfied and go away, and the story will never be covered again.)

Shutting down the truth after publishing it—includes failing to follow up and investigate a story more deeply.

Not connecting dots between important pieces of data.

Censoring the truth, wherever it is found (or calling it “fake news”).

Using biased “experts” to present slanted or false “facts.”

Repeating a false story many times—this includes the echo-chamber effect, in which a number of outlets “bounce” the false story among themselves.

Claiming a reasonable and true consensus exists, when it doesn’t, when there are many important dissenters, who are shut out from offering their analysis.

Employing a panoply of effects (reputation of the media outlet, voice quality of the anchor, acting skills, dry mechanical language, studio lighting, overlay of electronic transmissions, etc.) to create an impression of elevated authority which is beyond challenge.

These are all traditional forms and methods.

Here’s an example of a big story that deployed all ten forms of fake news: the Swine Flu pandemic of 2009.

In the spring of 2009, the World Health Organization (elevated authority whose pronouncements are beyond challenge) announced that Swine Flu was a level-6 pandemic—its highest category of “danger.” In fact, there were only 20 confirmed cases at the time (direct lying about “danger”). And W.H.O. quietly changed the definition of “level-6” so widespread death and damage were no longer required (another aspect of direct lying).

Media Still Shilling for Obama

Media Still Shilling for Obama

The media’s continued focus on undermining Trump comes at the expense of impartial journalism and reporters’ personal integrity

Canada Free Press
by Roger Aronoff
6/29/2017

Excerpt:

The Obama-loving mainstream media have stopped at nothing in their attempts to trash the presidency of Donald Trump, Barack Obama’s successor, before the new President’s agenda can take hold. Trump has promised a health care overhaul, immigration reform, tax reform, to leave the Paris climate agreement, and to hold America’s interests first on the world stage. Some of these goals have been achieved; others have not. But what remains clear is that the overwhelming majority of mainstream journalists and other Obama supporters alike see Trump as a threat to Obama’s legacy items of health care, climate change and Iran, to name a few.

And the press has gone all out to criticize Trump in whatever way possible. A recent Shorenstein Center Harvard study found that CNN and NBC had given Trump 93 percent negative coverage. The study, according to the researchers, followed the reporting of The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post, “CBS Evening News, CNN’s The Situation Room, Fox’s Special Report, and NBC Nightly News,” and “three European news outlets.”

We regularly monitor these same sources for liberal media bias, and find that the examples of misreporting and partiality are endless. The Democrat-Media complex incestuously favors the left at the expense of the truth. Most of the journalists who fill the airwaves each night were in the tank for Hillary Clinton, and remain horrified by a Trump victory.

As an example of the misreporting, CNN recently published a hit piece on Trump entitled, “Trump’s new foil: a silent Barack Obama.” Never mind that Obama regularly blamed George W. Bush for his administration’s failings. This recent CNN piece actually claims that Obama’s legacy isn’t under threat “because Obama has already done all he can to secure his reputation for posterity.

It has been news organizations like CNN and NBC that have sought to secure Obama’s legacy through non-stop propaganda pieces praising the former president’s programs such as the ailing Obamacare, as well contributing to the deluge of negative reporting on Trump.

Also, Obama can remain silent because he has so many others to speak for him: David Axelrod and Van Jones at CNN, Marie Harf at Fox News, and Josh Earnest at NBC and MSNBC, to name a few. We have reported on how Obama’s organization, Organizing for Action, was working with the Soros-linked grassroots group Indivisible to undermine Trump’s agenda. In other words, pro-Obama activities have been far from absent in the current political climate.

AG Jeff Sessions: Fight against ‘evil’ pedophiles a top priority

D.C. Clothesline
by Dr. Eowyn
6/8/2017

Excerpt:

Tuesday, June 6, 2017, in Atlanta, GA, in a speech at the National Law Enforcement Conference on Human Exploitation before about 1,500 law enforcement officials and victim support counselors who specialize in child sex abuse cases, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions sent a clear message that the Trump administration is going after pedophiles.

Calling pedophiles “evil,” “twisted,” “wicked,” “horrific” and “vile,” Sessions declares child abuse and child exploitation to be his top priority as Attorney General. Expressing empathy with and thanking the conference attendees for their very difficult and “dark” work, Sessions pledges to them the full support of the Justice Department.

Though delivered in his measured southern drawl, Sessions’ speech was impassioned and deserves your attention.

[Shown above]… is a video of his speech (h/t FOTM‘s Will Shanley and stlonginus), … my transcription [is given below].

Beginning at the 0:20 mark, Attorney General Sessions said:

“I know from my experience working these cases in Alabama that you are stopping people [who], if not stopped, will continue to abuse more and more people. A lot of people don’t like incarceration. But the reality is, and I wish it weren’t so, that incarceration seems to be in many cases the only thing that would protect children….

Child abuse and child exploitation cases are a high priority for me as United States Attorney and they will be a high priority now for me as Attorney General. And I want you to know that we can, we are now, and we will continue. You will make a difference in this fight and protect children that need to be protected and deserve our protection in every single way….”

Note: Before he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1996, Jeff Sessions, 70, was Attorney General of Alabama (1994-1996) and U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama (1981-1993).

“What we are charged [by President Trump] with doing is reducing crime in America, and crimes against children are some of the worst in our country…. So our efforts to improve public safety will make the fight against child exploitation and human trafficking a top priority of ours.

Germany and Islam

Germany and Islam

American Thinker
by Mike Konrad
6/27/2017

Excerpt:

Germany has a bizarre historical connection with Islam that lies beneath much of the present day crisis in Europe. One could argue that these connections are just the product of historical coincidences, but with Germany the coincidences seem to add up regularly.

When one studies the age of European imperialism, Germany came late to the game, almost as an afterthought.  Bismarck, for all his authoritarian faults, felt that imperialism would do Germany no good, and wanted no part of it.  He was overridden by public opinion, and Bismarck’s policy was later repudiated by Kaiser Wilhelm II, who wanted Germany to take her “Place in the Sun.”

Imperialism would not have destroyed Germany, per se; smaller and weaker nations such as Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, and even backward Spain all had empires.

But what set Germany apart was a concerted love of Arabs and Islam. There was something deeper and darker to this than mere German MachtPolitik.  One of his first acts, upon assuming power as Kaiser, was to visit the Ottoman Empire in 1889,  He wore a fez. He offered to arm the Turks.

Sultan Mehmet V greets Kaiser Wilhelm upon his arrival in Constantinople

The Kaiser’s Islamic enthusiasm was fired by an 1889 visit to Turkey, which Bismarck opposed on the grounds that it would gratuitously alarm the Russians. Wilhelm met the murderous Sultan Abdul Hamid II and enjoyed the sinuous gyrations of the Circassian dancers in his Constantinople harem.  – New York Review of Books

The Turks were astounded.  The Ottoman Empire was on a death watch, and the only reason the European powers did not carve Turkey up is because they feared an intra-Christian war over the pieces.  Now, the Kaiser was promising to make Islamic Turkey great again. Kaiser Wilhelm had resurrected the Islamic corpse.

It would only get worse.  In 1898, during a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, the Kaiser made the insane insinuation that were he not already Christian, he would be a Muslim.

A later visit to Jerusalem [in 1898], then under the auspices of the same flattering sultan, left the impressionable Kaiser declaring that, had he arrived agnostic, “I certainly would have turned Mahometan!” Soon the Kaiser was styling himself “Hajji Wilhelm”, the Protector of Muslims.  – The Express
