Part 2: Scribd.com goes 1984, again?

As readers may know we published a report here at WOBIK on April 16th, 2014 titled as Scribd.com goes 1984? Removes two uploaded (2012) ObamaCare documents, and replaces (2014) them with different versions?

I have now received a third email from Scribd.com concerning a third, and entirely different, uploaded document which they have now temporarily disabled access to (their way of saying that the document has been removed).

We published the document at the Scribd website on or about February 25th, 2013:

Link:  USDOJ Memo (Jan 4, 2013): ‘Summary of Select Firearm Violence Prevention Strategies’ (Greg Ridgeway, Ph.D.)

The document is now gone and this is what you see:

USDOJ Memo 2013 Summary of Select Firearm Violence Prevention Strategies Greg Ridgeway Ph.D.

We also published a report regarding the said USDOJ Memo here at the WOBIK blog on February 25th, 2013:

Link:  USDOJ Memo (Jan 4, 2013): ‘Summary of Select Firearm Violence Prevention Strategies’ (Greg Ridgeway, Ph.D.).

Last month I received the following email (11.21.2014) from Scribd.com, embedded below for review, stating that, “This is a notification that Scribd’s BookID copyright protection system has temporarily disabled access to “USDOJ Memo (Jan 4, 2013): ‘Summary of Select Firearm Violence Prevention Strategies’ (Greg Ridgeway,” (id: 127248392). This does not mean that an infringement has occurred, or that you have done anything wrong. BookID is part of Scribd’s diverse efforts to reinforce the rights of intellectual property rights holders. BookID is reviewing documents on Scribd over the next few weeks for possible matches to copyrighted content. The volume of content prohibits us from proactively reaching out before content is disabled.”

I don’t understand why the USDOJ Memo was removed.  Furthermore, I’ve never used Smashwords (which was also cited earlier this year regarding the removal of the two ObamaCare documents), BookBaby, Xlibiris or AuthorHouse.

Interestingly and thankfully, the WayBack Machine (i.e., Archive.org) has saved the Scribd upload:

Link:  April 9, 2013 Internet Archive

(NOTE: Pages saved with the WayBack Machine typically look remarkably handsome, quality reproductions, but it seems that archiving a page which contains an embedded PDF will not appear exactly as it appears in the original).

I also want to note here that several months ago I began saving, with the WayBack Machine, selected WOBIK blog reports. I also save pages from other websites if I judge them to be of significance and if I have reason to believe that that may be removed or edited.

WayBack Machine Internet Archive how to save archive.orgIf you visit the WayBack Machine you can effortlessly and effectively archive/save/capture pages from almost any website. Depending on what internet browser you are using you may see the adjacent Save Page Now option.

  1. Here is an enlarged view (for reading) of the plaque which is located adjacent to the statue of Thomas Jefferson in the picture featured at the head of the blog report:
