New Years Eve 2015/2016: Address Hotel skyscraper in Dubai is burning (it’s on fire)…and still standing (silly Americans still believe that fires brought down WTC 1, 2 and 7)

Address Hotel Dubia FireI hope that everyone has made it out safely from the burning Address Hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

I want everyone to be safe and living.

Having said that I also want to say Happy New Year’s Eve 2015/2016!

The 63-story Address Hotel in Dubai has been burning for a number of hours and still hasn’t (and wont) collapse.

I really don’t understand why so many American believe that fires brought down World Trade Center 1, 2 and 7 (…especially building 7).

Here’s a video from today of the Address Hotel burning:

Btw, below is an interesting documentary on Constructing Tallest Building in The World – Burj Khalifa [known as Burj Dubai before its inauguration] which also covers the history of building skyscrapers:

The Address Hotel and the Burj Khalifa are very close in proximity:

Fire engulfs Dubai hotel ahead of New Year celebrations

    BBC
From the section – ‘Middle East’

    Excerpt:

A huge fire has engulfed a 63-storey hotel in central Dubai ahead of a New Year’s Eve firework display.

Despite the blaze at the Address hotel, the display at the nearby Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, started as planned at midnight.

Officials say the fire has been brought largely under control and 16 people suffered mostly minor injuries. – (bold emphasis added)

It is unclear what caused the blaze, which broke out as large crowds had gathered to ring in the New Year.

Dubai hotel fire: Inferno at 63-storey Address Downtown hotel near New Year’s Eve fireworks display

Hundreds of Dubai’s tallest buildings are infernos waiting to happen, a leading fire safety expert says, as new video of the burnt interior of the Address Hotel is released

    The Telegraph
    David Millward, and Jessica Winch
    1/2/2016

    Excerpt:

…. • At the heart of safety concerns is the use of polyurethane and aluminium composite cladding on buildings throughout the height of the emirate’s building boom. The material was only outlawed by new buildings regulations in 2013.

Mr Barry, who served 30 years as a UK firefighter before becoming a senior lecturer in fire safety at the national fire service college in Gloucestershire, estimates that some 70 per cent of Dubai’s high rise buildings could be clad in the flammable materials.
    …………………………………………….

The fire at The Address hotel is the third major skyscraper fire in the emirate since 2012 and raises some very serious safety questions for British tourists and business visitors to Dubai.

Until Dubai changed its building regulations in 2013, many of the city’s tallest buildings were clad in an aluminium-polyurethane panelling that is highly flammable when exposed to flame or even extreme heat.

In February 2015 the 86-storey skyscraper The Torch went up in flames, with the exterior of the building burning rapidly, and the interior being left largely undamaged.
