It is no longer a conspiracy theory spawned by deplorable bitter clingers, but a creeping reality spawned by shootings law enforcement could have prevented but didn’t.  The Illinois House has passed legislation requiring 18- to 20-year-olds to give up certain legally purchased and legally owned firearms:

A bill requiring 18-20 year olds to hand over or transfer ownership of heretofore legally possessed “assault weapons” is gaining sponsors in the Illinois Senate after passing the House last month.

The bill, HB 1465, was sponsored in the House by Rep. Michelle Mussman (D-Schaumburg) and passed by a vote of 64-51 on February 28.

After being introduced in the upper house by Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago), the bill has added seven co-sponsors in the last week.  Notable among them was Sen. Jim Oberweis (R-Sugar Grove), the NRA “A” rated 2014 Republican nominee for U.S. Senate.

The NRA-ILA described the weapons covered by HB 1465 as “commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms.”  The bill also requires 18-20-year-olds to forfeit ownership of any magazines that hold more than ten rounds of ammunition.

Gun confiscation is here.  First they will come for the young, who can go to war with guns but can no longer go hunting with them or protect their families.  If you are a 20-year-old single mom with a restraining order against a violent ex-boyfriend, well, you’ll just have to trust your life to 911 as your door is being kicked in.  Meanwhile, the government wants you to give it your guns:

With Netflix, Obama builds another monument to himself

Obama is at it again.

Concerned about his crumbling legacy and unable to bear life out of the spotlight, the former president is in talks with Netflix “to produce a series of high-profile shows that will provide him a global platform after his departure from the White House,” as the New York Times, which got the scoop, put it.

Let that sink in.  The man is seeking to rewrite history, his own history, the better to influence the public to think he wasn’t such a bad president after all, through a television series about himself where he controls all the content.  It shows how reluctant he is to let go of the reins of power and act the graceful role of retired president.

Up until now, presidents have written their memoirs and then let history decide.  Obama never liked America or its traditions much, so it’s natural for him to shun its presidential traditions – from his presidential portrait to his presidential library to his presidential memoirs to his refusal to go away.  Through this Netflix project, Obama seeks an immediate propaganda platform for continuously preaching to the public in real time that his presidency was greatness itself, and thus influencing public perceptions just through coming into our living rooms each night.  Netflix has 118 million subscribers.

Why is the GOP Terrified of Tariffs?

Patrick J. Buchanan — Official Website
by Patrick J. Buchanan
3/5/2018

Excerpt:

From Lincoln to William McKinley to Theodore Roosevelt, and from Warren Harding through Calvin Coolidge, the Republican Party erected the most awesome manufacturing machine the world had ever seen.

And, as the party of high tariffs through those seven decades, the GOP was rewarded by becoming America’s Party.

Thirteen Republican presidents served from 1860 to 1930, and only two Democrats. And Grover Cleveland and Woodrow Wilson were elected only because the Republicans had split.

Why, then, this terror of tariffs that grips the GOP?

Consider. On hearing that President Trump might impose tariffs on aluminum and steel, Sen. Lindsey Graham was beside himself: “Please reconsider,” he implored the president, “you’re making a huge mistake.”

Twenty-four hours earlier, Graham had confidently assured us that war with a nuclear-armed North Korea is “worth it.”

“All the damage that would come from a war would be worth it in terms of long-term stability and national security,” said Graham.

A steel tariff terrifies Graham. A new Korean war does not?

“Trade wars are not won, only lost,” warns Sen. Jeff Flake.

But this is historical nonsense.

The U.S. relied on tariffs to convert from an agricultural economy in 1800 to the mightiest manufacturing power on earth by 1900.

Bismarck’s Germany, born in 1871, followed the U.S. example, and swept past free trade Britain before World War I.

Does Senator Flake think Japan rose to post-war preeminence through free trade, as Tokyo kept U.S. products out, while dumping cars, radios, TVs and motorcycles here to kill the industries of the nation that was defending them. Both Nixon and Reagan had to devalue the dollar to counter the predatory trade policies of Japan.

Since Bush I, we have run $12 trillion in trade deficits, and, in the first decade in this century, we lost 55,000 factories and 6,000,000 manufacturing jobs.

Does Flake see no correlation between America’s decline, China’s rise, and the $4 trillion in trade surpluses Beijing has run up at the expense of his own country?

The hysteria that greeted Trump’s idea of a 25 percent tariff on steel and 10 percent tariff on aluminum suggest that restoring this nation’s economic independence is going to be a rocky road.

In 2017, the U.S. ran a trade deficit in goods of almost $800 billion, $375 billion of that with China, a trade surplus that easily covered Xi Jinping’s entire defense budget.

If we are to turn our $800 billion trade deficit in goods into an $800 billion surplus, and stop the looting of America’s industrial base and the gutting of our cities and towns, sacrifices will have to be made.

But if we are not up to it, we will lose our independence, as the countries of the EU have lost theirs.

Specifically, we need to shift taxes off goods produced in the USA, and impose taxes on goods imported into the USA.

As we import nearly $2.5 trillion in goods, a tariff on imported goods, rising gradually to 20 percent, would initially produce $500 billion in revenue.

All that tariff revenue could be used to eliminate and replace all taxes on production inside the USA.

As the price of foreign goods rose, U.S. products would replace foreign-made products. There’s nothing in the world that we cannot produce here. And if it can be made in America, it should be made in America.

Consider. Assume a Lexus cost $50,000 in the U.S., and a 20 percent tariff were imposed, raising the price to $60,000.

What would the Japanese producers of Lexus do?

They could accept the loss in sales in the world’s greatest market, the USA. They could cut their prices to hold their U.S. market share. Or they could shift production to the United States, building their cars here and keeping their market.

How have EU nations run up endless trade surpluses with America? By imposing a value-added tax, or VAT, on imports from the U.S., while rebating the VAT on exports to the USA. Works just like a tariff.

The principles behind a policy of economic nationalism, to turn our trade deficits, which subtract from GDP, into trade surpluses, which add to GDP, are these:

Production comes before consumption. Who consumes the apples is less important than who owns the orchard. We should depend more upon each other and less upon foreign lands.

We should tax foreign-made goods and use the revenue, dollar for dollar, to cut taxes on domestic production.

The idea is not to keep foreign goods out, but to induce foreign companies to move production here.

We have a strategic asset no one else can match. We control access to the largest richest market on earth, the USA.

And just as states charge higher tuition on out-of state students at their top universities, we should charge a price of admission for foreign producers to get into America’s markets.

And — someone get a hold of Sen. Graham — it’s called a tariff.

Deep State Panics: America No Longer Believes Us!

Americans waking up to fake news, propaganda, lies and incompetence peddled by intel community

INFOWARS
by Jamie White
3/6/2018

Excerpt:

The intelligence community fears American citizens no longer believe the government due to the climate of fake news and state-sponsored propaganda, according to a recent national intelligence assessment.

Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats said in the document released last month that the intelligence community is concerned Americans no longer believe what they say.

“Challenges from urbanization and migration will persist, while the effects of air pollution, inadequate water, and climate change on human health and livelihood will become more noticeable,” the report stated.

“Domestic policy responses to such issues will become more difficult—especially for democracies—as publics become less trusting of authoritative information sources.”

Former Pentagon official Jed Babbin said distrust in government has been building for years.

“Whatever you call it — fake news, propaganda, or politics — American voters have been trained to be skeptical of what the government says,” he said.

Jeff Sessions Compares California to the Confederacy: ‘There Is No Nullification. There Is No Secession.’

Breitbart / Big-Government
by Joel B. Pollak
3/7/2018

Excerpt:

SACRAMENTO, California — U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions compared California’s “sanctuary state” laws to the historic defiance of the South against the federal government in a speech to law enforcement officials on Wednesday.

Sessions addressed the “legislative day” gathering of the California Peace Officers Association (CPOA), hours after the Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against three of California’s “sanctuary state” laws in federal court Tuesday evening.

The CPOA had opposed one of those laws, SB 54, which restricts cooperation between state and local law enforcement with federal Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and which went into effect in January.

The Attorney General stridently made the case against California’s resistance to federal immigration law, making reference to the South’s stands against the federal government over tariffs and slavery:

Immigration law is the province of the federal government.  This Administration and this Justice Department are determined to make it work effectively for the people.

I understand that we have a wide variety of political opinions out there on immigration.  But the law is in the books and its purpose is clear.

There is no nullification.  There is no secession.  Federal law is “the supreme law of the land.”  I would invite any doubters to Gettysburg, and to the graves of John C. Calhoun and Abraham Lincoln.

A refusal to apprehend and deport those, especially the criminal element, effectively rejects all immigration law and creates an open borders system.  Open borders is a radical, irrational idea that cannot be accepted.

Sessions also had harsh words for Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, who had warned illegal aliens of impending ICE raids late last month: “How dare you.  How dare you needlessly endanger the lives of law enforcement just to promote your radical open borders agenda.”

Trump: Tariffs Will Be Done ‘In a Loving, Loving Way’

Breitbart / Videos
by Pam Key
3/6/2018

Excerpt:

Tuesday during a joint news conference with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, President Donald Trump said his tariffs on steel and aluminum would be implemented in a “very loving way.”

Trump said, “We’ll have to see. When we are behind on every single country, trade wars aren’t so bad. Do you understand what I mean by that? When we’re down by $30 billion, $40 billion, $60 billion, $100 billion, the trade war hurts them, not us. You can also take it, in some cases we lose on trade plus give them military where we’re subsidizing them tremendously. So not only do we lose on trade, we lose on military. Hence we have these massive deficit numbers in our country.”

Italy gives Europe’s elites the boot

The great wave continues.  First Brexit in the U.K.  Then Donald Trump in the U.S.  And now Italy.  Not every country on Europe has managed to elect an outsider in direct contravention to its country’s out-of-touch elites, although they all have factions for it.  But Italy, with the world’s eighth largest economy, has, joining the U.S. and Britain to signal that the larger economies are moving this way, rebuking their elites and reclaiming their sovereignty.  According to The Guardian:

A majority of Italian voters have supported Eurosceptic candidates in the national election, preliminary results showed, after decades in which Italy has steadfastly championed the European project.

Early results released by the interior ministry on Monday morning, as ballots continued to be counted, pointed to a hung parliament, though there was still a possibility that the centre-right coalition, with about 37% of the vote, could secure a majority once parliamentary seats are allocated.

Either result would represent a repudiation of Brussels by Italian voters, less than two years after the UK narrowly voted to leave the European Union.

Obviously, Italians are tired of not recognizing their county anymore.  They’re battered by a European Union that has sucked the life out of their country’s economy with its out-of-touch currency, a death spiral in its own population, and now a migrant wave flooding the country, giving uneducated, unassimilated migrants from hellish cultures more rights than ordinary Italians along with access to the public till.  No, they don’t recognize their country much after events like that.  There was a recent cake-baking in one Italian town to celebrate the exit of its migrants, which gives a whiff of the sentiment.

A Nation of Children Wants a Nation of Gun Control

Letters to Hannah, A series of troublesome essays for my daughter, by Jeremy Egerer — http://www.letterstohannah.net/

=================================================

American Thinker
by Jeremy Egerer
3/4/2018

Excerpt:

In the history of protests, there is probably nothing less inspiring than a high-schooler refusing to go to school.   It’s as if the children threatened not to eat their vegetables; or as if a bad Catholic, upset with the bedrock teachings of the Church, refused to go to Mass.   You can refuse any number of things, but you can’t refuse in the most fun way possible, and if you refuse your food, the response of your “oppressors” should be then don’t eat your food.   It’s your life, and should you choose to ruin it by getting skinny or playing hookey, I say best of luck to you.   If you really want to make an impression, you should douse yourself in gasoline and set yourself on fire.   That way, we’ll know you really mean it.

I’m not against children, but I am 100% against “think of the children.”   I like to think of what’s best for the grown-ups.   Whatever works best for free, honest, informed, self-reliant, and armed adults works best for their dependents, and if children are anything, they are dependent.   If they grow up into anything, it is more parents.   If you love a child, remember that the purpose of cuteness is to make sure  kids turn into adults – who in turn are in charge of making us more children.

If some kids have to suffer so that most adults can do well in this world, in most cases, I’ll throw the kids under the bus faster than you can say “lickety-split.”   You get it the other way around, and the end result is that more kids will suffer anyway, like caring more about employees than about businesses, or caring more about the entitlements of citizens than the solvency of the country.     Children are important, but no good, honest, or safe society cares first about its children.   No free republic ever survived by placing the rights of its children above the rights of their parents.   So far as I’m aware, no tyranny ever survived by placing the rights of its children above the rights of their parents.   The end result of even the Cultural Revolution, where Chinese students were encouraged to attack their own parents and professors, was murder upon murder.

In general, you craft the policy around the adults, and everything else falls into place.   The great tragedy of American society is not that we treat too many children too poorly, but that too many people were given rights without ever proving they’d advanced beyond childhood.*   Christ said the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to children “such as these.”   I don’t know how thinking like a child gets you into heaven, but I know how it can get you off the Earth (research the culinary Tide Pod).

This being said, there is no subject in the United States more childishly discussed than the one we have about gun control, and probably because at this moment, children and halfwits are the ones responsible for steering the dialogue.   There are 330 million people in the United States, and at this moment, since 2012, according to The New York Times, there have been 138 deaths by school shooting.   This amounts to 21.3 deaths per year on average – an honorable statistic in a country as populated as ours.   On the other hand, according to Forbes, there were only 31 million Americans who went to Mexico in 2016, and in that same year, we had 75 Americans get murdered while doing it – more American deaths than the total of all other countries combined.
