For CIA Director, ‘One of the Most Accomplished Officers of Her Generation’

Gina Haspel
President Trump’s Choice for New CIA Director

White House

May 1, 2018

Excerpt:

Last week, the Senate confirmed then-Director of the Central Intelligence Agency Mike Pompeo to be America’s 70th Secretary of State. Upon Secretary Pompeo’s swearing-in, CIA Deputy Director Gina Haspel assumed the role of Acting Director for the Agency. Haspel is President Donald J. Trump’s choice to succeed Mike Pompeo at the CIA’s helm on a permanent basis.

The President’s decision was an easy one. Like Secretary Pompeo, Haspel’s credentials as a public servant are far-reaching. She joined the CIA in the waning days of the Cold War and has spent many of the 33 years since in dangerous posts and foreign capitals on America’s behalf. That dedication has earned her multiple honors over her career, including the Intelligence Medal of Merit, a Presidential Rank Award, and the George H. W. Bush Award for Excellence in Counterterrorism.

Haspel’s first overseas assignment was as a case officer in Africa. Years later, with the fight against al Qaeda heating up, she requested a transfer to the CIA’s Counter Terrorism Center. Her first day on the job was September 11, 2001.

Service in the CIA is largely quiet, behind-the-scenes work to keep America safe. The names of these men and women are often unknown to the wider public, but their contributions to national security are indispensable. Haspel’s promotion from within the Agency is a testament to the crucial work of these public servants.

Her rise is also a milestone for women. She is the first woman in the CIA’s 70-year history to climb the ranks to become Deputy Director, as well as the first woman to be nominated for CIA Director. When Haspel first took over as a Chief of Station in a tumultuous capital abroad, the skepticism of some of her male colleagues was obvious. It didn’t take long for her to prove the doubters wrong.

In Venezuela, five years of severance pay now buys a coffee

CARACAS (AFP) –

When Yolanda Abreu got her check for severance pay after five years working as a cardiologist, she let out a laugh of sheer disbelief: it was barely enough for a cup of coffee.

Like her, millions of Venezuelans have seen their salaries decimated by rampant hyperinflation that is expected to drive prices up by 13,000 percent this year, IMF figures show.

Her story hit the headlines after she tweeted a photo of the check for 156,584.29 bolivars, which equates to about $0.20 on the black market.

Are There Any Adults Left in Washington, D.C.?

American Thinker
by Brian C. Joondeph
4/25/2018

Excerpt:

As America approaches her 250th birthday, her instruction manual, the U.S. Constitution, is under assault as never before.  The First Amendment is under attack by campus speech police and social media, censoring and deciding which political statements are welcomed and which are verboten.  The Second Amendment is threatened by leftist elitists happy to ban guns for the law-abiding as long as they can have armed guards protecting themselves and their families from the criminals who don’t give a whit about whatever gun laws the left proposes.

It’s not only the Bill of Rights under assault, but also Article Two of the Constitution – specifically, the first section, detailing how a president is elected to a four-year term.

President Donald Trump was lawfully and constitutionally elected to serve as America’s 45th president for a term of four years, commencing in January 2017.  Unless he is impeached and removed from office, as dictated by the Constitution, for high crimes and misdemeanors, he is entitled to serve through January 2021.  If he chooses to seek a second term and the voters re-elect him, he may serve eight years.

This is how our government works: the peaceful transition of power from one president to the next.  At least, this is how it is supposed to work and has for the first 44 American presidents.

Hillary Clinton fundraiser and lobbyist Caren Turner quits Port Authority ethics post after video of her cursing out local cops goes viral

  • Hillary Clinton fundraiser and lobbyist Caren Turner resigned her Port Authority of New York-New Jersey commissioner post.
  • Turner’s resignation came after a confrontation with Tenafly, New Jersey, police about a traffic stop involving Turner’s child.
  • A YouTube video of the incident has gone viral.

CNBC
by Dan Mangan
4/25/2018

Excerpt:

A Washington lobbyist who played a leading role in raising money for Hillary Clinton’s presidential runs resigned her commissionership at a top transportation agency after being caught cursing out police on video.

“You may shut the f— up!” fumed the lobbyist, Caren Turner, at a Tenafly, New Jersey, cop during a March 31 traffic stop of a car in which Turner’s daughter had been a passenger.

“You’re an ass,” Turner later told the officer, according to a police report released Wednesday. “Look at that smug-ass look on your face.”

Turner, 60, had become increasingly frustrated and angry after police politely declined to discuss in detail why they had pulled over that car, which was being impounded after being found to have an expired registration.

A police dashcam video — which has gone viral — shows Turner, who lives in Tenafly, arriving in her own vehicle just as police were finishing up ticketing the driver for violations that included failure to have a current insurance card, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving with the license plate obscured.

Violent Video Games Cause an Increase in Aggression Long After the Game Has Been Turned Off

Sage Journals / Social Psychological and Personality Science
Brad J. Bushman, Bryan Gibson
First Published August 11, 2010 Research Article

Abstract:

Experimental studies show that violent video games cause people to behave more aggressively, but how long does the effect last? In most experiments, aggression is measured immediately after gameplay. The present experiment is the first to test the long-term causal effects of violent video games on aggression. By the flip of a coin, participants played a violent or nonviolent game for 20 min. Within each group, half ruminated about the game. The next day, participants competed with an ostensible opponent on a competitive task in which the winner could punish the loser with painful noise blasts through headphones. Results showed that violent video games increased aggression 24 hr later, but only among men who ruminated about the game. Rumination keeps aggressive thoughts, feelings, and behavioral tendencies active. If players ruminate about the violence in a game, the aggression-stimulating effects of the game persist long after it has been turned off.
