Did you notice, during the recent mass riots on Israel’s border with Gaza how the Western media played their knee-jerk role of turning the violence into an emotional defense of Palestinians and an attack on Israel? Why do the media always fall into the terrorist trap?

They always talk of Palestinian dead and not Hamas or Islamic Jihad dead. The latter would be more truthful, but it wouldn’t make such tear-jerking headlines, would it? If truth be told, telling the truth would put Israel on the moral high ground but that would be against editorial intention. Tales of dead babies win every time against a tale of Jews defending their country against a fomented mob of 40,000.

So take a good look at the photo. These are the real faces of those killed during the Hamas-motivated suicide riots. They are three of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists killed by Israeli IDF snipers during the so-called “protests” on May 14. Of course, they didn’t wear their uniforms as they herded excited Gazans to the border fence to burn tires creating intoxicating and choking black smokescreens to blind Israeli soldiers as they feverishly snipped at the border fence or placed explosive devises there.

The vast majority of those killed were paid up members of the Hamas terror group. This was admitted by both senior Hamas official, Salah Bardawil, and by Yahiya Sinwar, the head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Bardawil admitted that 50 of the dead were Hamas fighters. Mahmoud Rantisi, a Hamas terrorist who had been caught and imprisoned by Israel but released in a prisoner exchange for captured Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit, while grieving over the death of his son, admitted that his son was a “jihad fighter” and “an operator in the nukhba,” the Hamas elite force. Like father, like son. Killers, or potential killers, of Jews.

Of course, you wouldn’t know these things if you read the Western media or viewed their frenetic reporters dressed in flak-jackets and wearing helmets in front of a background of dramatic bellowing smoke. They never talk of “jihad,” or “armed struggle,” or that “The Zionist enemy is our adversary, and there is no room on our land for it. This is jihad—victory or causing death in the way of Allah!”

It’s couched in oh, so delicate terms, as pretty much everyone mourns the death of the great Tom Wolfe.  Tom Wolfe was a reporter; Tom Wolfe was an observer.  Tom Wolfe eyed status-seeking.  Tom Wolfe skewered the establishment.  And through his incredible mastery of words, he entertained the hell out of us.

Yes, true enough.  But somehow he never got a Nobel Prize in literature, despite vastly outranking almost everyone else who has.

So I guess I am corrupting things a little when I state the obvious about Wolfe: he did write; he did observe; he did skewer; and by gosh, it all added up to making the left look stupid, particularly the cultural left, because it is the establishment.  There is no way a writer this honest could not find them.  And because he was a ferocious believer in and chronicler of American exceptionalism, he got them good.

Oh, he made the left look stupid.  It’s why reading his work is such a delicious pleasure.

In 1965, best-selling historical novelist Taylor Caldwell published her great work on Marcus Tullius Cicero, A Pillar of Iron. A central focus of her meticulously researched study was Cicero’s political combat with, and triumph over, the treasonous conspiracy led by Roman Senator Lucius Sergius Catilina, known in English as Catiline. While Rome’s wealthiest and ablest citizens timidly evaded their duties to defend the commonweal against the impending mortal danger, Cicero, the incomparable rhetoretician, aided by Cato the Younger, dauntlessly exposed and opposed the Catiline conspiracy, which had penetrated all levels of the government. Prominent senators and aristocrats in the conspiracy included Lentulus, Cethegus, Longinus, and Paetus.

Turkey’s acceptance to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in October 1951 was a boon for the organization. Though its human rights record was far from stellar, it was staunchly anti-Communist, maintained a formidable army, was amenable to the placement of NATO assets in the country, including nuclear-tipped Jupiter ballistic missiles and was strategically located, flanking the Soviet Union on the south and acting as a bridge between Europe and Asia.

Though Turkey was technically a Muslim country, it leaders, following the doctrines espoused by Kamal Ataturk, zealously guarded the secular nature of the state. Religious influence was kept to a minimum and this was especially true for government officials and parliamentarians. Indeed, there was a significant Jewish population in Turkey and Turkey was the first Muslim majority nation to recognize Israel, extending recognition in March 1949.

During the Korean War, Turkey sent a sizable contingent to fight alongside the United States-led United Nations coalition, and its troops acquitted themselves well in combat. Turkey’s strained relations with its neighbor Greece and its human rights record proved to be problematic issues for NATO but were overlooked in light of the benefits conveyed to NATO by Turkish membership.

With the ascension of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as prime minister in 2003, the equation began to change. Erdoğan’s Justice and Development Party (AKP), a Muslim Brotherhood offshoot, began systematically changing the character of secular Turkey, incrementally at first so as not to upset the Turkish Army, but at an accelerated pace in recent years. Now president, Erdoğan has consolidated his power and has neutered his foes in the press, the judiciary, the political opposition, and the army.

Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa, the laconic Midwesterner with a steel trap mind, dropped a bombshell yesterday with a letter (the full letter appears below – pdf here) to Deputy A.G. Rod Rosenstein (who supervises the Mueller probe) and FBI director Christopher Wray.  But in keeping with Grassley’s style, which has so often misled his opponents into overconfidence, you have to read between the lines to see where he is heading.  The end point: uncovering the plot to frame General Flynn for lying to the FBI, including likely criminal acts by senior members of the FBI.

Recall that facing financial ruin, and threats to prosecute his son on unrelated charges, General Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, yet James Comey told the Grassley Committee in a briefing:

[T]he FBI agents who interviewed Lt. General Michael Flynn, “saw nothing that led them to believe [he was] lying.” Our own Committee staff’s notes indicate that Mr. Comey said the “agents saw no change in his demeanor or tone that would say he was being untruthful.”  Contrary to his public statements during his current book tour denying any memory of those comments, then-Director Comey led us to believe during that briefing that the agents who interviewed Flynn did not believe he intentionally lied about his conversation with the Ambassador and that the Justice Department was unlikely to prosecute him for false statements made in that interview.  In the months since then, the Special Counsel obtained a guilty plea from Lt. General Flynn for that precise alleged conduct.

Comey has since changed his tune, in “a Fox News interview in which he denied he ever told lawmakers that he did not believe Michael Flynn lied.”

General Flynn’s sentencing has been delayed repeatedly, as Judge Emmett Sullivan (who replaced Judge Contreras after he was removed from the case) has demanded that all exculpatory evidence be handed over to him.
