In China, scoring citizens’ behavior is official government policy. U.S. companies are increasingly doing something similar, outside the law.
FASTCOMPANY, by Mike Elgan — August 26, 2019
Excerpt:
Have you heard about China’s social credit system? It’s a technology-enabled, surveillance-based nationwide program designed to nudge citizens toward better behavior. The ultimate goal is to “allow the trustworthy to roam everywhere under heaven while making it hard for the discredited to take a single step,” according to the Chinese government.
In place since 2014, the social credit system is a work in progress that could evolve by next year into a single, nationwide point system for all Chinese citizens, akin to a financial credit score. It aims to punish for transgressions that can include membership in or support for the Falun Gong or Tibetan Buddhism, failure to pay debts, excessive video gaming, criticizing the government, late payments, failing to sweep the sidewalk in front of your store or house, smoking or playing loud music on trains, jaywalking, and other actions deemed illegal or unacceptable by the Chinese government.

Leprosy, also known as Hansen’s disease, is rarely seen
in the United States, but cases continue to emerge in Los Angeles
County, a new report says.
“Hansen’s disease still exists, and we need to educate medical
students and physicians,” coauthor Dr. Maria Teresa Ochoa from Keck
Medical Center of the University of Southern California, Los Angeles,
told Reuters Health by email.
Dr. Ochoa and colleagues identified 187 patients with the disease in a
review of medical records from their leprosy clinic spanning 1973 to
2018. Most patients were Latino, originating from Mexico, and they
experienced a median delay in diagnosis of more than three years, the
team reports JAMA Dermatology, online August 7.
Multibacillary leprosy (MB) cases outnumbered paucibacillary leprosy
(PB) cases by nearly eight to one (88.6% vs. 11.4%, respectively), and
Latino patients were more likely than non-Latino patients to have MB, as
were patients from Central or South America (versus other regions).

NEW YORK POST, by Michael Goodwin — August 24, 2019
Excerpt:
While reading the transcript of a New York Times staff meeting, a Lily Tomlin line came to mind: “No matter how cynical you get, it is impossible to keep up.” – (bold emphasis added)
In this case, it is also impossible not to be disheartened and furious. The transcript shows that the rot of bias at the Times is far beyond the pale and there is no hope of recovery. Yet not a single person there declared the obvious — that the paper is betraying its principles.
Rigor in reporting and restraint in judgment once made the Gray Lady noble. Now she is dead, her homicide an inside job.
The transcript, leaked to Slate, reveals a confederacy of ignorance and bigotry involving hundreds of people. The ringleader is executive editor Dean Baquet, who fires the fatal shot into the credibility of his paper.
By giving reporters and editors license to try to stop Donald Trump from becoming president, then letting them peddle the Russia, Russia, Russia hoax, Baquet helped unleash the hatred that is tearing America apart. Never before has a single media institution played such a destructive role in the nation’s life.

Unable to scale the new primary border barrier and flee back to Mexico, two men who entered the U.S. illegally near San Diego were arrested by #BorderPatrol. Barriers give agents the time they need to respond and contain illicit activity at the immediate border. @CBPpic.twitter.com/zQH1GAPPZx
Border Patrol security video captures a failed attempt by a pair of migrants to cross a new border wall section near San Diego, California. The migrants attempted to scale the new bollard wall section but could not reach the top. Agents responded and apprehended the duo.
Excerpt:
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials erected new border barriers in the San Diego Sector. The barrier includes a large bollard wall with steel plates along the top. The barrier also includes two rows of fencing with a security road and electronic monitoring. The Mexican side of the barrier is not completed, as seen in the border security video.

Gateway Pundit, by Brock Simmons — August 18, 2019

What the media and politicians painted as “violent right wing white supremacists chomping at the bit to engage in violence” turned into yet another left wing antifa riot-like scene, as the Proud Boys and other Trump supporters proved, as usual, to be peaceful and law abiding while the far left protesters came unhinged and once again terrorized Portland.
It was brilliantly played by former Infowars contributor Joe Biggs and Enrique Tarrio, head of the Proud Boys, who organized the “End Domestic Terrorism” protest. They had their peaceful protest that lasted for about an hour and a half, then they left. Antifa and other far left activists were left in the park, full of weeks of pent up rage, and they needed someone and something to take it out on. Unfortunately for the bystanders of Portland, they were once again subjected to the chaos from the left.
