Transcontinental Intercontinental telegraph service in Mombasa when Stanley Ann Dunham was a baby.

Stanley Ann Dunham was born on November 29th, 1942.  A few months later the following telegrams (which I now own and have in my personal possession) were transmitted from Pinxton, England to Mombasa and dated as being received on March 8, 1943 and May 6th, 1943:

March 1943. Telegram Telegraph from Pinxton, England to Mombasa, Kenya. by Lucas Daniel Smith

May 1943. Telegram Telegraph from Pinxton, England to Mombasa, Kenya. by Lucas Daniel Smith

Approximately 622, 300 foreign telegrams were handled in East Africa the same year (1961) that Stanley Ann Dunham gave birth to her son Barack Hussein Obama II in Mombasa.*

Also, the previous year (1960), the International Telex service had extended externally to the Western Union System of the U.S.A., Ruanda Urundi, Brazil, India, the Commercial Company System of the U.S.A., Iran, Argentina, Canada and Finland. Telex service was a fully automatic teleprinter switching system, which enabled subscribers to call each other at any time of day or night and to communicate in print.  Calls could be made to telex subscribers in other countries.  A total of 3,625 international, and 1,862 locals calls, were made using the International Telex service in Kenya for the year 1961.*

Conclusion: Transcontinental Intercontinental telegraph (telegram) and telephone service was available in Mombasa in 1961.  After Stanley Ann Dunham’s son was born (1961) in Mombasa she would have been able to send a telegram to, or place a telephone call to, family in Hawaii informing them of the birth of Barack Hussein Obama II.

* Stanley Ann Dunham goes to Kenya.

During the same period sending telegrams was probably possible between Iceland and Botswana. I won’t waste time on this precious theory.
This lead us to an immense doubt: was Obama born in Iceland ? Was he born in Botswana ? Was a telegram to Hawaii announcing his birth sent from Botswana or was it sent from Iceland ?

Lucas, a great philosophical question for you:

is everything possible necessary ? (you will have to become familiar with the philosophical meaning of “necessary”)

On your part there is a fundamental intellectual mistake you repeatedly make. The flaw is in your reasoning and I will try to express it in simple terms so that you may understand:

you are wasting time to prove how thing are possible,
what you are missing is whether or not they are necessary.

But I give you credit for having performed 50% of the job. Now, how about discussing the remaining 50% ?

Okay so you proved what exactly? Nothing from the United States? There is also the cost I notice you make no mentions of the costs back then. Still the possibility doesn’t translate into what is plausible.

    Lucas,

    Congratulations on an EXCELLENT FIND.

I think it’s interesting and significant that the subject matter in both telegrams you have shown is rather ‘casual’ and ‘mundane’.

This indicates quite dramatically to me that the COST OF SENDING THE TELEGRAMS WAS NOT CONSIDERED TO BE ‘EXTRAVAGANT’.

    (1) “Best wishes for a speedy return. Best wishes and good health.”

    (2) “Parcel received, many thanks. My thoughts are with you. Fondest love and kisses.”

These were NOT critically important messages such as: “Your mother just died. Please return home immediately.” Messages such as this obviously would have justified a large expenditure.

Folks would very likely not have paid an unreasonably high fee, even back in 1943, to send a messages like “Best wishes and good health”.

    — not that MONEY WAS EVER A MAJOR PROBLEM FOR THE OBAMAS.

Here is my IMAGINED telegram sent from Mombasa to Honolulu, about August 5, 1961 by Ann Dunham Obama to her mother, Madelyn Dunham, prior to Madelyn registering the birth with the DOH in Hawaii:

Hi Mama. I had a beautiful, healthy baby boy. I’m doing fine. Barack Hussein Obama II, born August 4, 7:24 PM, 7 pounds 1 Ounce, Coast Province General Hospital, Mombasa. Baby and I will fly back soon to Vancouver. Mama Lois plans to come with us. Love, Ann

Thank you very much Bruce. Also, I agree with you on the ‘casual’ and ‘mundane’ subject matter of the telegrams and the costs.

  5. All references to ‘transcontinental’ within this report (including the title) have been changed to ‘intercontinental’.

Nothing has been physically deleted. Strikethrough text reflects what should be considered as having been deleted.

Well then I suppose that these must be forgeries also:

Calm down, Cujo. Don’t go all ‘Keith Ellison’ on us here.

Are you suggesting that the website, Archives.gov, is displaying a Photoshopped image?

  11. Andrew Vrba, PmG wrote:

Oh. My apologizes. That first one is a real telegraph. But you didn’t digitize it.

    Dear keyboard warrior,

For the record, I did digitize it. Typically items on eBay are there because they are for sale/auction. I own the telegrams. How do you think I have a scan of the backside of the telegram? You don’t see that on the auction do you? Also, the grid background doesn’t show through the paper on my scan (as it does on the eBay scan) now does it.

Moreover, if the first telegram is real then what has happened to your ‘no punctuation’ theory and your ‘STOP’ theory? You don’t stand behind your work do you? And you’re not a very good detective are you? Looks like your better learn to do ‘The Google’ better. Maybe you could ask Mrs Taitz for a few pointers?

And how long is it going to take you to come back here to apologize for being wrong about the second (the larger one) telegram?

Next time take the time to think before you post.

  12. Andrew Vrba, PmG says:

I only stand behind my “work”, unless I’m proven wrong. I can own up to being wrong about the formatting/stop theory. But anyone can copy images they find on the internet, and apply a “I totally scanned this!” label. I consider your claim of ownership is dubious considering what you went to jail for.

Will this do it for you then:

  14. @ Andrew Vrba, PmG:

    and this too:

(I threw in the money because your next wild rebuttal will probably be to the effect that I don’t have the money to buy the telegrams).

PS- I’ve been collecting old books and other paper antiquities for years, long before I ever heard of Barack Obama.

  15. @ Andrew Vrba, PmG:

and here is the backside (which you wont find on eBay) of the first telegram:

Spam? – OF COURSE! – but not too blatant!

I actually prefer this type of soft ‘Spam’ to the incessant, inane ‘Obama Obnoxious Obot Mutual Masturbation’ comments that so commonly attempt to clog, bury, confuse and misdirect discussions on all Obama Eligibility related blogs!

Why is your passport so strange? And why did you produce an entry stamp for 2009 on page 15 of your passport and an island run from 2012 on page 8?
