Some of the reasons the document is believed to be a forgery are:

• The document is not typed, as would be expected on a government certificate of this type.
• There is no visible embossed seal on the document.
• There is a contradiction in facts stated in the document. The certificate states 'BIRTH' in "Coast Provincial General Hospital in the city of Mombasa" but below, under 'Where and when born' it states "King George VI Hospital" (in Nairobi)
• The document falsely uses the term 'citizen'. Quote: "THIS DOCUMENT certifies and affirms that the registrant is a native-born citizen of the Kenya Colony of the United Kingdom and is duly a subject of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II." Individuals were referred to as 'subjects' not 'citizens'
• The security watermarking on the paper used for the certificate contains, in Afrikaans, a statement that includes the phrase: “NOTICE: This image is a work of parody and political commentary. It is not a genuine government document."
