Trump on Fiorina Attack: ‘I Was Talking About Persona,’ Not Looks

    Mediaite

    Alex Griswold
    9/10/2015

    Excerpt:

Republican frontrunner Donald Trump said on Fox & Friends Thursday that he wasn’t attacking Carly Fiorina’s looks when he told Rolling Stone magazine, “Look at that face!”

“Probably, I did say something like that about Carly,” Trump told those who thought he may have been misquoted because, you know, it was Rolling Stone.

“I’m talking about persona. I’m not talking about looks,” he argued. “Although when I get criticized about my hair… nobody does a story, ‘Oh, isn’t that terrible, they criticized Donald Trump’s hair.’”

“The fact is, I probably did say something like that about Carly in a jocular manner,” he repeated. “She is at me constantly.”

“So what you’re saying is, you didn’t comment about her physical appearance, you were commenting about the way she holds herself?” asked host Brian Kilmeade.

“It’s about the persona. It’s about the persona. And I say that about a lot of people,” Trump said.

CNN’s Cuomo Spars with Trump Over Attack on Fiorina: ‘It’s Not Presidential’

CNN’s Cuomo Spars with Trump Over Attack on Fiorina: ‘It’s Not Presidential’

    Mediaite

    Alex Griswold
    9/10/2015

    Excerpt:

The host of CNN’s New Day Chris Cuomo sparred with Donald Trump Thursday morning, with Cuomo pressing the GOP frontrunner on why he felt the need to launch personal attacks on fellow candidate Carly Fiorina.

“You had a ‘there he goes again’ moment,” Cuomo said. “First it was [Rosie O’Donnell], then it was [Megyn Kelly], now they got you in Rolling Stone magazine making fun of Carly Fiorina, you’re making fun of the way she looks.”

“Why do you talk about the way women look so much? You know it’s not presidential,” he asked.

“I’m not talking about her looks,” Trump protested. “I’m talking about her persona.”

“You said ‘Look at that face!’ You said ‘Look at that face!’” Cuomo interrupted.

“The fact is that Carly Fiorina has had a terrible past. She was fired viciously from Hewlett-Packard–”

“But then you should say that,” Cuomo interrupted again.

But Trump went on to list a litany of reasons why Fiorina was a horrible candidate, calling her “one of the worst CEOs” and a horrible Senate candidate. “So the statement on Carly, I’m talking about her persona. Her persona is not– she’s not going to be president. She’s had a terrible, terrible, terrible failed time.”

Cuomo responded by quoting Trump’s comments, which were unquestionably about Fiorina’s looks: “Look at that face! Why would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?! I mean, she ’s a woman, and I’m not s’posedta say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?”

“I’m talking about persona–” Trump began.

“That’s not about persona!” Cuomo shouted over him.

“They talk about my hair, and that’s okay,” Trump noted.

Cuomo promised to chastise the next guest who attacked his hair. “All I’m saying is that you are the frontrunner. You say that you’re going to be President of the United States; there is a manner of behavior that goes with that. I’m not saying be Mr. PC or Captain Gentility and let everyone beat you up. But you know doling out a blow every time you get one, you know that doesn’t work in any high-level situation.”

In true oblivious Trump fashion, he responded to that criticism with an attack. “Well I’m a believer, perhaps you’re not. Maybe that’s why your show is not doing as well as it should be.”

“That’s not nice,” Cuomo responded. “You’re attacking me for asking you a question! That’s my point. That’s not what the president does.”

Carly Fiorina Responds to Trump’s ‘Look at That Face’ Slam in Rolling Stone Profile

Carly Fiorina Responds to Trump’s ‘Look at That Face’ Slam in Rolling Stone Profile

      Mediaite

      Josh Feldman
      9/9/2015

      Excerpt:

During her appearance on Fox News tonight, Carly Fiorina responded to Donald Trump taking a personal jab at her in a Rolling Stone profile.

The profile contains Trump saying of Fiorina, while watching her on TV, “Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?! I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not s’posedta say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?”

Megyn Kelly asked Fiorina for her response to that. Fiorina didn’t directly respond to the comments in question, saying, “I’m not going to spend a single cycle wondering what Donald Trump means.”

She did add, though, that it’s clear she’s getting under his skin.

Fiorina’s Face: Trump Fights Like a Leftist … And Wins

Fiorina’s Face: Trump Fights Like a Leftist … And Wins

        Breitbart / Big-Journalism

        John Nolte
        9/10/2015

        Excerpt:

This should go without saying but in this increasingly shrill GOP primary of ours I want to be clear that analyzing Donald Trump’s political tactics does not equal my condoning of them. I’ve said before and I’ll say again that as an old-fashioned sexist I believe in a gentlemanly approach towards ladies.

This does not include Rosie O’Donnell, who is no lady. But it most certainly does include Megyn Kelly and Carly Fiorina. Amplifying a tweet referring to Kelly as a “bimbo” (which she is not) is not okay with me. Mocking Fiorina’s looks is not okay with me (nor is it accurate).

So let’s get the dumb food fight out of the way.

        This is not about ethics.

This is not about right and wrong.

        This is about politics.

        This is about winning.

This is about moving past the ethical argument into the tactical argument.

The point I want to make is that one of the reasons Trump is currently shellacking Establishment candidates like Jeb Bush with nearly 4 times the support, is simply due to the fact that he fights like Barack Obama and Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV)

        Trump fights like a Leftist.

Another reason Trump’s winning is due to the Republican Establishment’s rampaging and fatal case of fecklessness when it comes to fighting back against pretty much anyone, including the billionaire businessman. Just like their limp-wristed responses to Obama and Reid, the Establishment is too busy running around crying “foul!” over a Marquis of Queensbury violation to understand that they are losing.

While Obama was hitting below the belt calling everyone racist and sexist; while he called Palin a pig; while he was rabbit punching accusing Romney of murder; while Reid was beating our guy over the head with a metal folding chair with lies about paying taxes — what were we doing?

        We were losing.

You don’t win elections on defense.

You don’t win elections waiting for voters to share your outrage over the other guy not fighting fair.

You do win elections by making the other guy look weak and feckless — by keeping him reacting and reactionary and on defense. And one of the ways you accomplish that is by fighting dirty.

That’s not the entire game for winning but it is a mighty large part of it.

Trump hasn’t gone as far as Obama in accusing someone of murder. He hasn’t gone as far as the Republican Establishment in attacking The Powerless (our own voters!) as racist rubes (our loser Establishment is always willing to attack their own harder than they will any Democrat — and that’s because they cower before the media). Still, Trump has crossed some lines of decency and while it is perfectly appropriate to criticize the crossing of those lines, you don’t win elections gripping your pearls and gasping, “Well, I never!”

When it comes to the corrupt mainstream media and his political opponents (I think I just repeated myself), Trump’s entire campaign gameplan is to keep his opponents unbalanced, unfocused, on their back foot and on defense. And like Obama and Reid and the mainstream media, he is willing to do this by any means necessary.

And yes, if Trump believes mocking an opponent’s looks will get him under her skin (a place where many campaigns are won), he’s willing to go there.

Bill Clinton once said, “It’s better to be strong and wrong than right and weak.”

Let me put it another way: No matter how nasty and underhanded the bully fights, nobody respects a punk.

        Nobody votes for punks.

        People respect strength.

And the guy getting beat while he’s crybabying about the other guy not fighting fair is always the punk.

We live in a world where the media openly admires how well the Clintons lie their way out of trouble; a world where the media are too busy admiring Obama and Reid’s audacity to make either ever pay a political price for smearing others with what the entire world knows are lies.

Trump understands that this is how the political world now works. This doesn’t mean he’ll go all the way. He may go too far. He might implode. And if he keeps up these boorish attacks against women he probably will. But up to now all he’s done is win and win and win again; defy every rule and prediction and critic to the top of the field.

Meanwhile, the Republican Establishment is losing to him for the same reasons they twice lost to Obama and Bill Clinton: they think that if they scream “Unfair!” loud enough the voters will share their moral indignation and come around. Well, I hate to break this to you, but all the voters see is weakness.

The more The Establishment and their anti-Trump media allies complain about Trump’s dirty tactics, the higher Trump’s poll numbers rise.

After 8 dreadful years of getting serial-rolled by Obama and Reid (even after winning two midterms), the GOP base wants to win. And after these 8 dreadful years they believe it will take our own Obama and Reid to win — a streetfighter unafraid of the media willing to get in the gutter and do what it takes to win.

Trump is driving up the MEDIA COVERAGE and POLL NUMBERS for Fiorina and Carson

          MY COMMENT:

I dislike Mr. Trumps personal attacks on Carly Fiorina and Ben Carson, most especially those that are not factual.

However, it's interesting that THESE PERSONAL ATTACKS BY TRUMP APPEAR TO BE PRODUCING GREATLY EXPANDED MEDIA COVERAGE FOR BOTH FIORINA AND CARSON, thus helping to drive their poll numbers higher.

I doubt Mr Trump will ever apologize for his statements to either of these two fine conservatives, BUT I THINK HE WILL START TO 'MAKE NICE' to them both at some future time.

          FULL DISCLOSURE:

I plan on supporting DONALD TRUMP as Republican PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE in 2016

I plan on reluctantly supporting political chameleon, CARLY FIORINA as VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE running with Presidential Candidate, Donald Trump

I plan on supporting BEN CARSON as either SECRETARY OF HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES or SURGEON GENERAL in the Trump/Fiorina administration.
