Parents Disturbed By Kids Being Shown Obama ‘Pledge’ Video at School: Like ’1940s Germany’

    Excerpt:

In 2009, Harpo Productions released a pledge video as a public service message to inspire people. Most of it is a nice message about doing good for the world, but the celebrities in the video then go on to say, “I pledge to be a servant to our president.” A Wisconsin middle school showed the video at its Peace One Day event, and is now under fire from parents who were outraged to see such a partisan message in what was supposed to be a non-political event.

The school district quickly backpedaled and apologized for including the video in the event.
“The reason the video was used was to show students small ways to make a difference in their communities,” the district wrote in its apology. “Unfortunately, the video also had a political slant. The district is non-partisan and does not endorse the political messages found in this video. This video will not be used in the district again.”

One woman who spoke to KMSP about the video likened the over-the-top Obama praise to “1940s Germany.” And, of course, people did find it bizarre that as opposed to politicians being public servants, the video contains the message of the public being servants to politicians. Not to mention the zooming out to a wall of celebrities in a Big Brother-esque multi-screen wall of Obama love.
