North Korea\u2019s latest nuclear test is also a test of China and the resolve of the United States.<\/em><\/h2>\n

On Sunday, North Korea set off its sixth nuclear explosion. Tremors from the explosion, which was as much as 10 times bigger than the previous test last year, could be felt in cities in China\u2019s northeast.<\/em><\/p>\n

The U.S. responded to the test by saying it would put together trade sanctions that would cut off trade with North Korea. China is by far North Korea\u2019s largest trading partner, buying $2.34 billion of Korea\u2019s estimated $2.8 billion of exports in 2015 and selling it $2.95 billion of goods. No other country has even 1\/10th that level of trade with North Korea.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot we can do to cut them off economically, much more than we\u2019ve done,\u201d Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said in an interview on Fox News Sunday.<\/em><\/p>\n

Asked if that would include unilateral sanctions against Chinese banks and other companies doing business with North Korea, Mnuchin said: \u201cWe are going to strongly consider everything at this point and, again, I will draft a package for [President Trump\u2019s\u2019 strong consideration that would go as far as cutting off all trade and other business.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
