President Donald Trump today joined with two GOP Senators to introduce his merit-based immigration reform, which is designed to help millions of Americans hurt by the nation\u2019s current cheap-labor immigration\u00a0policies.<\/em><\/h2>\n

The RAISE Act \u201cwill reduce poverty, increase wages and save taxpayers billions and billions of dollars,\u201d Trump told reporters in the Roosevelt Room of the White House. \u201cThis legislation demonstrates our compassion for struggling American families who deserve an immigration system that puts their needs first, and that puts America first.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The current immigration system, said Trump:<\/em><\/p>\n

has placed substantial pressure on American workers, taxpayers and community resources, and among those hit the hardest \u2026 are minority workers competing for jobs against\u00a0brand new arrivals. It has not been fair to our people, to our citizens, to our workers \u2026 [this RAISE act] will give Americans a pay\u00a0raise by reducing immigration\u2026 [and] it will restore the sacred bonds of trust between America and its citizens.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Democrats and their ethnic pressure groups are expected to oppose the immigration reform because they wish to increase the inflow of unskilled foreign migrants. Business groups also oppose the measure because it would raise wages and reduce the inflow of new welfare-aided consumers.<\/em><\/p>\n
