A US doctor has failed to convince Great Ormond Street medics that his experimental treatment offers a lifeline for terminally-ill baby Charlie Gard.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Here\u2019s all we know about the tot with the\u00a0High Court judge\u2019s decision final decision about the tot\u2019s future looming.<\/em><\/p>\n

Who is Charlie Gard?<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n

Charlie Gard\u2019s fight for life has touched\u00a0the world.<\/em><\/p>\n

The tot is in the \u201cterminal stages\u201d of a disease called mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome, as both of his parents Connie and Chris<\/a> were unknowingly carrying the faulty gene.<\/em><\/p>\n

Charlie is said to be one of only 16 people to have ever had the condition.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

Doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital had said Charlie should be allowed to die in dignity.<\/em><\/p>\n

They applied for permission to have his ventilator switched off.<\/em><\/p>\n

But his parents are fighting this decision \u2013 raising more than \u00a31.3 million<\/a>\u00a0to pay for pioneering treatment in the US.<\/em><\/p>\n

What has happened in the legal battle so far?<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n

April 11<\/strong> \u2013 Charlie\u2019s distraught parents were told\u00a0by a judge at the High Court <\/a>that his life support machine will be turned off \u2013\u00a0ruling that it would be cruel to try and extend Charlie\u2019s life further.<\/em><\/p>\n

May 25<\/strong> \u2013 The couple\u00a0begged senior Court of Appeal judges but they\u00a0upheld the High Court ruling.<\/em><\/p>\n

May 31<\/strong> \u2013 The tot was given a last minute reprieve when Britain\u2019s Supreme Court agreed to review the case<\/a>, but they then\u00a0ruled that Charlie\u2019s life support must be switched off.<\/em><\/p>\n

June 27<\/strong> \u2013 The European Court of Human Rights ruled that they would not intervene\u00a0 \u2013 which meant his life-support was expected to be stopped on Friday June 30.<\/em><\/p>\n

June 30<\/strong> \u2013 After a heart-wrenching plea from Chris and Connie, Great Ormond Street agreed to grant them more time <\/a>with little Charlie to say goodbye.<\/em><\/p>\n

July 10<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0The case returned to the High Court when the family asked for permission to take\u00a0the terminally ill tot\u00a0to the States for a \u201cmiracle\u201d treatment.\u00a0More than than 490,000 people signed a petition calling for him to be allowed to travel<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

July 17<\/strong> \u2013 A\u00a0US doctor\u00a0flew into the UK to meet with British medics. Dr Michio Hirano believes he can help Charlie.<\/em><\/p>\n

July 18<\/strong> \u2013 Dr Hirano met doctors at Great Ormond Street. The findings of the meeting will be reported to Judge Nicholas Francis, who is expected to make a final decision on July 25.<\/em><\/p>\n

July 19<\/strong> \u2013 The US Congress gave Charlie US citizenship <\/a>after Dr Michio Hirano, 56, was unable to convince British consultants that his experimental treatment offers a lifeline.<\/em><\/p>\n
