\"First<\/a>In May, 1988 the First Interstate Tower in Los Angeles, California\u00a0burned for at least three (3) hours<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Construction of the 62-floor steel frame building was completed\u00a0in 1973. The\u00a0exterior was made of glass and aluminum.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the time of the fire (1998)\u00a0the building was not equipped with a working sprinkler system. \u00a0A system was in process of being installed but inoperative at the time of the fire.<\/span><\/p>\n

After the fire, the building remained closed for several months while the structure was inspected.<\/span><\/p>\n

The property loss was estimated at over $200 million, without taking into account the business interruption loss.<\/span><\/p>\n

In spite of the total burnout of four and a half floors<\/strong>, there was no damage to the main structural members and only minor damage to one secondary beam and a small number of floor pans. Although there was concern for structural integrity during the incident, post fire analysis indicates that there was no danger of major or minor structural collapse. It was noted that quality control in the application of the sprayed-on fire protection was unusually good.<\/span><\/p>\n

The building still stands and is known today as the\u00a0Aon Center (or\u00a0United California Bank Building):<\/span><\/p>\n

World Trade Center, September 11, 2001:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

South Tower: \u00a0collapsed at 9:59\u00a0a.m. after burning for approximately 56 minutes<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

North Tower: \u00a0collapsed at 10:28\u00a0a.m. after burning for approximately 102\u00a0minutes<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

World Trade Center 7 (47-floor steel building): \u00a0<\/span>endured fire for almost seven hours,<\/span><\/strong>\u00a010:28:22 a.m. until 5:20:52 p.m., and then collapsed.<\/span><\/p>\n
