{"id":4401,"date":"2014-05-10T02:42:37","date_gmt":"2014-05-10T06:42:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wasobamaborninkenya.com\/blog\/?p=4401"},"modified":"2014-05-10T02:56:28","modified_gmt":"2014-05-10T06:56:28","slug":"kenya-in-the-dominican-republic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wasobamaborninkenya.com\/blog\/kenya-in-the-dominican-republic\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya in the Dominican Republic?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Over the years the skeptics, primarily the obots, have issued jokes to the effect that if I was in Kenya then Kenya must be located somewhere inside of the Dominican Republic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Earlier today I was searching for a picture which I transferred the other day from my phone to a drive on my computer. \u00a0I couldn&#8217;t find it. \u00a0I already deleted it from phone so if it really wasn&#8217;t on one of my computer drives then it was likely lost forever.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> I began opening older folders which contain pictures from a number of years ago in hopes that I had mistakenly dragged the picture over to one of these folders. \u00a0One such folder contained pictures which I took with the original, or very first model, of the i-Phone (2007) which I bought in 2008.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As I was searching (very quickly because there are a lot of pictures) a preview of each picture was displayed off to the right side of my computer. \u00a0I passed two pictures which I took from the passenger side of a SUV some years ago. Something caught me eye. \u00a0I went back a couple of clicks and had a better look at it:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wasobamaborninkenya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Rancho-Kylimanyaro-y-Masai-Mara.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4402\" alt=\"Rancho Kylimanyaro y Masai Mara\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wasobamaborninkenya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Rancho-Kylimanyaro-y-Masai-Mara.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wasobamaborninkenya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Rancho-Kylimanyaro-y-Masai-Mara.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.wasobamaborninkenya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Rancho-Kylimanyaro-y-Masai-Mara-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nand:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wasobamaborninkenya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Rancho-Kylimanyaro-y-Masai-Mara-more.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4403\" alt=\"Rancho Kylimanyaro y Masai Mara more\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wasobamaborninkenya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Rancho-Kylimanyaro-y-Masai-Mara-more.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wasobamaborninkenya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Rancho-Kylimanyaro-y-Masai-Mara-more.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.wasobamaborninkenya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Rancho-Kylimanyaro-y-Masai-Mara-more-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The metadata indicates that these pictures are from April 2010 but for some reason I think that they are older (sometimes even creation dates are altered when transferring files). \u00a0 However, in April 2010 I may have been using my original i-Phone as somewhat of a &#8216;fish phone&#8217; (i.e., a phone that you don&#8217;t mind taking on a fishing trip or anywhere with high risk of damage) so it very well may be that the pictures were taken in April 2010.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I any event what I noticed early today is listed directly below:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>1.<\/strong> <\/span>\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Rancho Kylimanyaro \u00a0 \u00a0(English: \u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Kilimanjaro<\/strong> ranch)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>2.<\/strong><\/span> \u00a0 <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Avenida Masai Mara \u00a0 \u00a0(English: \u00a0<strong>Masai Mara<\/strong> avenue)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It appears that these places are located in the Dominican Republic in the province of San Crist\u00f3bal in the municipality of Villa Altagracia.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000066; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: normal; background-color: #ffffff;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">However, <strong>Masai Mara<\/strong> (established in 1961) is a large game reserve in Kenya!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Kilimanjaro<\/strong>\u00a0is a region, which borders Kenya, in Tanzania and is also the name of the highest mountain in Africa!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I guess you really can find Kenya and Africa in the Dominican Republic, sort of.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In closing I also want to point out that in the Dominican Republic the acknowledged heritage is European (or Spain) and to a degree that of the indigenous Taino indian. \u00a0 African heritage is generally not acknowledged in the Dominican Republic <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; text-decoration: underline;\">and even when it is<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> <strong>it is not<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The best way I can describe it is to give an example of the opposite: \u00a0In the United States black Americans, regardless of how light or dark they are, generally don&#8217;t (maybe never) acknowledge their white or European heritage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; text-decoration: underline;\">Note:<\/span><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Americans should not confuse Spain or Spanish with Mexican or the Hispanic culture seen in the United States nor should they confuse the extinct (other than that which exists in Dominican blood) indigenous Taino indians with the contemporary native American indians in the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Having said that, names like\u00a0<\/span><strong>Kylimanyaro <\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and<\/span><strong> Masai Mara <\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">seem to be<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>very atypical when found in the Dominican Republic. \u00a0 Perhaps there are others? \u00a0 I asked several Dominican friends tonight and none where aware of these places listed in this report and when I asked if they were aware of any other African-named places they all stated that they did not know any African places, names or words so they wouldn&#8217;t be able to tell me if there were any others here in the Dominican Republic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I do, however, have a picture (which I took myself several years ago inside of the <\/span><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Museo del Hombre Dominicano<\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">) of all the indigenous Taino indian words which are in use in the Dominican Republic:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wasobamaborninkenya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Taino.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4404\" alt=\"Taino\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wasobamaborninkenya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Taino.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wasobamaborninkenya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Taino.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.wasobamaborninkenya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Taino-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">To be fair here is a additional picture that I took several years ago in front of the same museum. \u00a0There are three (3) statues: \u00a0European clergyman (front), indigenous Taino indian (right) and African slave (left):<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wasobamaborninkenya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/museum-Dominican.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4405\" alt=\"museum Dominican\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wasobamaborninkenya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/museum-Dominican.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wasobamaborninkenya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/museum-Dominican.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.wasobamaborninkenya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/museum-Dominican-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Please exercise your free speech in the comments section below.
