\"opyu<\/a>This week I meet with a retired attorney who lives in Santiago (Dominican Republic) who specialized in extradition cases. \u00a0<\/span>His own son was once facing extradition to Spain.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was an interesting trip and I learned a lot.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the things that I learned is that an Embassy or Consulate is typically not informed that a citizen of the Embassy’s or Consulate’s country is facing extradition unless the person facing extradition requests that their attorney, friends or family initiate contact with the embassy and request help with their rights as a citizen of that country.<\/span><\/p>\n

We talked for almost three (3) hours and also ate fried chicken and\u00a0ensalada rusa. \u00a0Everyone at the table was drinking Kola Real (comparable to Coca-Cola) but I passed because I have been limiting my intake of pop because it very unhealthy, especially in a hot climate where a person needs to consume lots of water on a very regular basis or face serious health problems down the road (there are people here who die of old age at 50). \u00a0 Water, aside from what is found naturally, or added to, everything that we eat and drink, is not very popular here. \u00a0Most meals are taken with pop (they don’t call it ‘pop’ here but they do in Iowa, or at least the people who aren’t embarrassed and have caved in to calling it soda).<\/span><\/p>\n

At any rate there is a very ample and terrible chance that I will be extradited to Kenya. \u00a0 The Dominican Republic will extradite to any country on the globe for the right price if the requesting country really wants the wanted person back.<\/span><\/p>\n

The attorney also told me that I am very lucky that I wasn’t just abducted and near immediately flown to Kenya via Europe. \u00a0 A popular route back to United Kingdom (which the Dominican Republic doesn’t have an extradition treaty with) is to escort the wanted person on a flight to Spain where he\/she will be taken into custody there and then extradited to Britain.<\/span><\/p>\n
