The weekends are sometimes slow days here at the WOBIK blog and we’ve decided that nothing heavy, intricate or difficult to understand should be published on Saturdays and Sundays.<\/span><\/p>\n

From this point forward we may occasionally, or perhaps regularly, publish what we have styled as<\/span> The Weekend Birth Certificate Review.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

In this first edition of The Weekend Birth Certificate Review we present Orville Asa Turpin’s <\/span>Delayed Certificate of Birth:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

I own Orville’s birth certificate and digitized it yesterday for review here at the WOBIK blog.\u00a0 The document contains a raised embossed seal from the State of Iowa and includes several signatures as well as a blue number (175069) stamp on the front and back as well as black date (May 15 1942) stamp and a unintentional partial fingerprint left behind by the official who date stamped the document.<\/span><\/p>\n

Orville was born<\/span> Des Moines, Iowa (Polk County).\u00a0\u00a0 Des Moines is the captial of Iowa and is also the biggest city in Iowa.\u00a0<\/span>You don’t run into many young people in Iowa these days named Orville but I do know at least one guy in Iowa by the name of Orville.<\/span><\/p>\n

Orville’s father’s name was Ephraim Turpin and he was born in Peoria, Illinois.\u00a0 I too once lived in Peoria, Illinois as a boy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Orville’s mother’s maiden name was Mary Wagner and she was born in Warren County, Iowa.<\/span><\/p>\n

Orville’s birth document asks for ‘Color or Race’.\u00a0 ‘White’ is listed as the answer.<\/span><\/p>\n

As readers may know, Barack Obama has attained an awful lot of things (e.g., attained the Office of US President) without a North American birth certificate.\u00a0 Orville appears to have also attained a lot without a birth certificate.<\/span><\/p>\n

For approximately 53 years (1889 thru 1942) Orville did not have a birth certificate.\u00a0 Yet the ‘Abstract of Supporting Evidence’ provided within the above pictured birth document states that the documents used and relied on to acquire his ‘Delayed Certificate of Birth’ included the following:<\/span><\/p>\n

1.<\/strong>\u00a0 Draft Registration issued June 5, 1917.<\/span><\/p>\n

2.<\/strong>\u00a0 Insurance Policy issued July 20, 1908.<\/span><\/p>\n

3.<\/strong>\u00a0 Tax Receipt issued September 25, 1923.<\/span><\/p>\n

4.<\/strong>\u00a0 International Association of Machinists issued May 26, 1913.<\/span><\/p>\n

I’m not sure if a person today in the United States of America would have any of the forgoing 1 thru 4 documents if they did not first have a birth certificate.<\/span><\/p>\n

I took me some time to ascertain Orville’s last name because I couldn’t make out the spelling in the writing of the said last name on the above pictured birth document.\u00a0 In any event, I did confirm the spelling when I found the following gravestone picture online for Orville and his wife Blanche who have both passed some years ago:<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Orville<\/a><\/p>\n

It appears that, according to the gravestone, Orville lived a relatively long life on Earth living to be approximately 95 years of age (1889 thru 1984).\u00a0 His wife Blanche was born in 1891 and passed in 1964.<\/span><\/p>\n

They are buried at the <\/span>Des Moines Masonic Cemetery<\/span><\/em> which is located at 1550 48th St, Des Moines, Iowa 50311.<\/span><\/p>\n

This report serves, in part, as a tribute to my fellow Iowan – Orville Asa Turpin.<\/span><\/p>\n

If any surviving blood relatives of Orville and Blanche find themselves reading this report you are welcome to contact me if you’d like for me to send you Orville’s tangible birth certificate.
