McCarthy<\/a>  &#8212; February 15, 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Excerpt:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The proof that he willfully  deceived investigators appears strong, but the Justice Department likely  felt there were too many obstacles to convicting him. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The&nbsp;Justice Department announced Friday that it is closing its&nbsp;investigation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/doj-wont-pursue-criminal-charges-against-mccabe\">Andrew McCabe<\/a>,  the FBI\u2019s former deputy director, over his false statements to  investigators probing an unauthorized leak that McCabe had orchestrated.  McCabe was fired in March 2018, shortly after a blistering Justice  Department inspector general (IG)&nbsp;report&nbsp;concluded that he repeatedly  and blatantly lied \u2014 or, as the Bureau lexicon puts it, \u201clacked candor\u201d \u2014  when questioned, including under oath.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Why not  indict McCabe on felony false-statements charges? That is the question  being pressed by incensed Trump supporters.
