For the haters, it\u2019s open season on the American ideal.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colin Kaepernick doesn\u2019t like today\u2019s American flag because it reminds him of police brutality and he doesn\u2019t like Betsy Ross\u2019 O.G. flag because it reminds him of slavery. I\u2019m starting to think maybe Colin Kaepernick is not so fond of the flag, or of the country that made him rich.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nike supported him by <\/em>withdrawing the Betsy Ross-flagged sneaker<\/em><\/a>. That\u2019s right, the American flag, in any form, is now apparently a toxic symbol. The governor of California, Gavin Newsom, actually praised Nike.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the Charlottesville City Council just <\/em>voted to stop celebrating<\/em><\/a> Thomas Jefferson\u2019s birthday in the city where he died on the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence he wrote. American patriotism has just <\/em>reached a record low<\/em><\/a> entirely because of Democrats, of whom only 22% say they\u2019re \u201cextremely proud\u201d of their country. To celebrate the Fourth, America\u2019s most prominent newspaper is bidding for the trolling Hall of Fame by <\/em>running a video<\/em><\/a>, titled \u201cPlease stop telling me America is great,\u201d that argues how America is \u201cjust OK.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

America didn\u2019t complete the project of freedom on that broiling day in Philly, but that\u2019s like saying your kid\u2019s first day of school is no big deal because your kids can\u2019t do algebra yet. On July 4, 1776, we began setting up the greatest opportunity for human flourishing the world has ever known, and our example continues to be the world\u2019s beacon. The United States of America isn\u2019t perfect. We\u2019re merely the best. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
