WASHINGTON \u2014 A lawyer for Paul Manafort, the president\u2019s onetime campaign chairman, repeatedly briefed President Trump\u2019s lawyers on his client\u2019s discussions with federal investigators after Manafort agreed to cooperate with the special counsel, according to one of Trump\u2019s lawyers and two other people familiar with the conversations.<\/em><\/p>\n

Downing did not respond to a request for comment. Though it was unclear how frequently he spoke to Trump\u2019s lawyers or how much he revealed, his updates helped reassure Trump\u2019s legal team that Manafort had not implicated the president in any possible wrongdoing.<\/em><\/p>\n
