Scans of every page of Kenya’s tangible newspaper, “The Standard”. Wednesday, January 21, 2009. Mr President Barack Obama.

I bought this Kenyan newspaper in December 2009.
The Standard (newspaper in Kenya). January 21, 2009. Mr President Barack Obama.

The January 21, 2009 paper edition of The Standard newspaper contains 2 additional sections which I have included in the above embedded scribd.com (Patriot1980) PDF.   The Standard runs from page one (1) thru page forty-nine (49).  The  Standard’s Fever Pitch (Sports) runs from page fifty (50) thru fifty-six (56).  The Standard’s Crime, Courts & Investigations (CCI) runs from page fifty-seven (57) thru seventy-two (72).

This newspaper was printed in Kenya the day after Barack Obama was sworn in as de facto President here in the United States of America.

Nearly all of this edition (though not entirely) of The Standard consists of, and is dedicated to, covering the story of Barack Obama becoming President (de facto) of the United States of America.

I believe that this newspaper contains unique data that isn’t found elsewhere.   It doesn’t state that Obama was born in Kenya but there is a mega-plethora of data and clues that a good detective/investigator needs to crack the case.

Below I have provided a list of thought-provoking quotes and data from the newspaper which I jotted down while reading it.   Before entering into that list I want to note that Lands Minister James Orengo is mentioned in this newspaper as making unique statements and actions, in the Kenyan Parliament, on the day that Obama was sworn in to Office.  (Do you remember his much later parliament floor statement in March 2010?   In  April 2010 I posted a FreeRepublic.com thread about him: Kenya Parliament (National Assembly, James Orengo) admits that President Barack Obama born in Kenya.).  I also want to note that this newspaper uniquely puts Obama in Kenya in the year 1983 while most other sources put Obama in Kenya in 1985 or 1986 or 1988.

I encourage the reader to create a list of their own as they read through the now recently digitized newspaper.  Afterwards please share your findings at the foot of this blog report in the comments sections.

Page 2.   “Japan learns English from Obama book.”   “An English language textbook, The Speeches of Barack Obama, has sold more than 400,000 copies in two months, a big hit in a country where few hit novels sell more than million copies a year.”

Page 2.   Lost of photographs of a young Barack Obama and some with family as well as a stunning black & white wedding photograph of Barack and Michelle.

Page 2.   “Yesterday, Barack Obama made history by being sworn in as the first black president of the US.”

Page 3.   “The [US] Constitution requires that the commander-in-chief be a civilian;…”     The Standard forgot to mention that the you must be a born in the United States of America.

Page 4.   “Obama gave his speech only a few feet away from his step-grandmother Mama Sarah Obama and step-mother and step-sister Keziah Obama and Dr Auma Obama.” Isn’t Dr [Rita] Auma Obama the half-sister of de facto President Barack Obama?  Can someone (you, the reader) people help me ascertain whether The Standard’s indication of ‘step-sister’ is a typo or if it is really and truly factually accurate?

Page 4.   (The Standard quoting Obama)  “…and do our business in the light of day…”   I don’t consider your present day concealment of  your physical birth in Kenyan as doing your business in the light of day.

Page 4.   (The Standard quoting Obama)   “My fellow citizens, I stand before you, humbled…”   Is he really and truly a citizen of the the United States of America?   If so, is a citizen the equivalent of a natural born citizen?

Page 4.   “Obama stepped into history by becoming the US’s first black president…

Page 4.    “Defense Secretary Robert Gates sat out Barack Obama’s inauguration at undisclosed location as the “designated successor” in the event of a catastrophe.”   Before reading The Standard I did not know this.   I’ve never contemplated the scenario but, before reading The Standard, I probably would have been inclined to think (and incorrectly so) that the President-elect’s Vice President-elect would be the “designated successor”.

Page 5.   Picture of Barack Obama meeting his step-mother Kezia Obama at Capital Hill during the wearing in.

Page 5.   “Obama’s inauguration, significant to Kenya because of his ancestry that is traced to K’Ogelo village in Siaya District…”  “…Obama had drawn glowing reference to Kenya’s K’Ogelo village where his father is buried…     Kogelo is abundantly mentioned throughout this edition of The Standard but only on page 5 (twice on page 5) is the spelling of K’Ogelo used.

Page 5.   Lands Minister James Orengo (Remember his parliament floor statement in March 2010?   In  April 2010 I posted a FreeRepublic.com thread about him: Kenya Parliament (National Assembly, James Orengo) admits that President Barack Obama born in Kenya.).   Its thought-provoking to see him mentioned here in The Standard, more than a year before his parliament floor statement about Obama being born in Kenya, regarding an hour that was supposed to be set aside in the Kenyan Parliament to congratulate Obama.

“To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.” (-that was  The Standard quoting Obama).   Scandalous events unfolding around various [Kenyan] government departments in the past few weeks have put the [Kenyan] government on the spot for what is seen as condoning corruption in its coalition ranks.  The mention of “corruption and deceit”, came coincidentally after [Kenyan] Parliament was allowed by the Speaker to set aside an hour to congratulate Obama, but the motion turned into censure for the [Kenyan] Government for turning a blind eye to corruption.  “I am not ready to be called a thief and lumped up with these individuals that’s is why I will start naming them if [Kenyan] Parliament does not,” said Minister James Orengo as he turned the congratulation debate into talk about the latest corruption scandals that have rocked the country.”

Page 6.    Saudi Arabian Saleh al-Mohaisen in Riyadh said, regarding Obama, “I feel we share the same blood.”   The context implies that this should not be taken literally.

Page 6.    “Today is a big day for America when a black president takes office.”

Page 8.   “A big banner of Obama’s portrait bearing the words, ‘Congratulations our son. Our pride’, fluttered in the wind over a huge crowd that included foreigners at Nyangoma Primary School where celebrations took place last night.”

Page 8.   “Obama’s image dotted the rural school.  These included: caps, fliers and badges, among other items.”

Page 8.   “Luo culture artefacts (sic) and Obama carvings sold out in the village.”

Page 8.   “A soccer match between local clubs to clinch the Obama Cup also took place.”

Page 8.   “…Kanyadhiang village, where part of the late Barack Obama senior’s family live.

Page 8.   “Led by Luo Council of Elders Chairman Riaga Ogallo, they thanked Americans for rising beyond race to elect a black man as their president.”

Page 8.    In Kogelo there are two (2) schools named after President Obama.  In Kanyadhiang there is a school being built that will be named after Barack Obama senior.

Page 8.   “It was at this market where Obama once helped his grandmother to sell vegetable when he first came to Kenya in 1983.”     Most other sources list 1985, 1986 or 1988 as the year that Obama firsted visted (returned to) Kenya.

Page 10.    Kenya’s President, Kibaki, said, “On this special day we recall the remarkable journey you have traveled to become the leader of your great country.”   What does that mean?   Born in Kenya?

Page 10.   Kenya’s Vice President, Kalonzo Musyoka “said there was a lot to learn from Obama’s journey to the top despite his coming from a less-privileged background.”  What in el diablo is that supposed to mean?  I wasn’t aware that Obama ever had it rough while growing up.

Page 10.   “Obama becomes America’s 44th president and the first black to capture the White House.”    Since when does a President ‘capture’ the White House?   Capture, as a verb, means to take into one’s possession or control by force.

Page 10.   “Parliament adjourns to honor ‘son of Kenya’ (President Obama) as legislators call for electoral reforms.”   “Parliament adjourned an hour and-a-half early to congratulate US President elect Barack Obama ahead of his inauguration.”   A picture of Lands Minister James Orengo is displayed and a somewhat more detailed discussion of the event, originally cited on page 5, is given.

Page 16.   (The Standard quoting Obama)   “This is the price and the promise of citizenship.”   What exactly and specifically does Obama know about the price and the promise of citizenship?  And again, is Obama really and truly a citizen of the the United States of America and if so is a citizen the equivalent of a natural born citizen?

Page 16.   “For the first time in history, an American of African heritage was sworn in as the duly elected President of the US yesterday.”

Page 16.   “Lets talk about climate change”.   “Climate Change and Greenhouse Gases Emissions Reduction Bill.”    Unlike Muammar Gaddafi’s Libya, Kenya welcomes loans from IMF and WB.

Page 18.   “On Friday, the Secret Service arrested a man in Mississippi after he said on an Internet chat room that he was going  to kill Obama.   “I have decided I will assassinate Obama Barack Obama,” Mr Steven Joseph Christopher wrote.  “It’s really nothing personal about the man…but I know it’s for the country’s own good that I do this.”  He later said that he didn’t even have a gun, but the Secret Service is taking no chances.”

Page 18.   “I don’t lose any sleep over it because the realities are that, as a black man, Barack can get shot going to the gas station  — Michelle Obama over husband’s security.”   Maybe lady, but that would be black-on-black crime.

Page 19.   “…Obama was born in Hawaii…”   That is incorrect unless Kenya used to be named Hawaii in 1961.

Page 19.    A picture is displayed of Obama fans in China as they admire Obama’s portrait on clothing for sale.

Page 19.   “…the Japan town of Obama puts up stages outside a local Buddhist temple for an “Obama for Obama” event…”   “The town’s businesses have pumped out Barack Obama sweat bean cakes, chopsticks, T-shirts, fish burgers, neck ties, and Obama Noodles marked “For world peace and stability.

Page 20.   Pictures of Obama in Kenya in 2006 including a picture of him hugging his paternal grandmother Sarah in Kogelo village.

Page 22.   “Obama’s ancestors were not slaves.  His black Kenyan father met his white Kansan mother in Hawaii.

Page 24.   “The Bush family name, once among the the most illustrious in American political life, is now so tainted that Jeb, George’s younger brother, recently decided not to run for Senate from Florida.  A Bush relative describes family gatherings as “funeral wakes”.”

Page 33.   “America’s Next Top Model?” [Michelle Obama].    I think that Michelle Obama is somewhat physically attractive and I like here figure (including her backside) but I don’t think that I could ever (it’s just not possible) imagine her as  America’s Next Top Model.   It appears that the writers were referring to the First Lady’s trendy and chic fashion style (clothing) and not really her face (which again is somewhat attractive but certainly NOT within a stones throw of being supermodel megadiva attractive).  See her picture on the same page if you disagree.

Page 15 (or page 71 of the PDF) of The Standard’s Crime, Courts and Investigations (CCI).  The newspaper’s “Cinema Guide”  list the movie, “Barack Obama: The man and his journey” as playing at the following theaters in Kenya:

“20th Century Fox – CBD”

“Nu Metro (Prestige Plaza)”

“Nyali Cinemax – Mombasa”

Again I encourage the reader to create a list of their own as they read through the now digitized newspaper.  Afterwards please share your findings at the foot of this blog report in the comments sections.

  1. Bruce says:

    Lucas,

Congratulations on your unique and spectacularly informative research find regarding the inauguration of (de facto) President Obama in January 2009, as viewed by the people of Kenya. I hope that this now-digitized document will serve both as an important source for historical information concerning Obama and this interesting time period and also as a stimulant to intelligent discussions regarding the issue of his POTUS eligibility.

I intend to make some more detailed comments on the topic later, after I have had a chance to closely examine this ‘treasure trove’ of new information, which has not previously been made available for viewing by the vast majority of the American public.

For now, I will simply state: WAKE UP AMERICA!

It’s readily apparent that the extensive and totally ecstatic coverage the inauguration of Barack Hussein Obama II was given on January 21, 2009 in ‘The Standard’ was NOT just for some guy born to a teenage white woman, 47 years previous, on some island in the Pacific ocean, in the new American state of Hawaii, whose Kenyan-born, low-level bureaucrat father happened to have been married to for 3 years.

Upon viewing that awesome, January 2009, over-the-top presentation in ‘The Standard’, it should be OBVIOUS, to even the most slow-witted amongst us, that it signified a national CELEBRATION of the fact that one of their very own, BORN IN KENYA citizens, had been elected and was now assuming the coveted office of President of the United States of America.

  4. Bruce says:

    Hmmmmm!

I note with interest, the photo of Obama exiting the Standard Group offices in Nairobi, Kenya, which is shown on page 20 of the Adobe pdf document. The photo bears the caption:

“Obama is escorted out of the Standard Group head offices by Deputy Chairman and Strategy Advisor Paul Melly and Managing Director Paul Wanyagah. He paid a courtesy call on the group following a punitive raid by State operatives in March 2006.”

My questions regarding the photo are:

What was Obama seeking to accomplish by paying a call on the Standard Group during his visit to Kenya in August 2006, which occurred about 5 months after the ‘punitive raid’?

What possible interest did Obama have in the raid, anyway? That is, the Standard did NOT need to mention the raid in the photo caption, unless there actually was some CONNECTION between the raid and Obama.

Why did the ‘Standard’ choose to use the caption phrase ‘Obama is escorted out ..’ rather a more friendly phrase such as, ‘Obama is accompanied by … as he leaves the Standard Group head offices … ’?

I am suspicious of the official story regarding the March 2, 2006 ‘punitive raid’. I suggest that perhaps the raid was actually concerned with INTIMIDATION of the Standard Group to insure that nothing of a ‘sensitive or derogatory’ nature would be published in their newspaper, or shown on their affiliated TV station, regarding Senator Obama, who would soon be visiting their country.

From Wikpedia: “The Standard is one of the leading newspapers in Kenya with a 20% market share. It is the oldest newspaper in the country owned by The Standard Group, which also runs the Kenya Television Network (KTN).

The 3/6/2006 CNN article covering the raid is linked below:

    http://articles.cnn.com/2006-03-02/world/kenya.press_1_news-media-raid-kenyan-president-mwai-kibaki?_s=PM:WORLD

    CNN
Masked police carrying AK-47 assault rifles have raided the television station and newspaper owned by Kenya’s second-largest media group and briefly detained four journalists.

A police spokesman said in a statement hours after Thursday’s early morning raid that authorities conducted the sweep to collect evidence about a plot that would threaten national security.

“They went straight to the transmission studios and instructed the staff there to switch off the transmitters,” said KTN Managing Editor Farida Karoney.

“They then took away the computers in the studio, took away the all tapes for today’s programs and then they came into the newsroom, dismantled all the computers and went away with them,” the editor added.

The police spokesman said journalists at the Standard had been paid to write a series of fabricated articles about the government, and that police were acting on intelligence information about “an intended act” that would threaten national security.

The spokesman denied, however, that police had a hand in burning newspapers.
An employee at the printing plant said police forced the workers to do it.

“All of us were told to lie down, then … they ordered us to take the all the newspapers outside there where they forced us to burn all of them,” said Raphael Mutila.
The raids came two days after three other Standard journalists were detained without charges after the publication of an article alleging a meeting between Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki and a key opponent, former Environment Minister Kalonzo Musyoka.

Both men deny the meeting, and Musyoka said the government is just using the story as a pretext to crack down on the Kenyan news media.

Intimidation of the news media was frequent in Kenya under Kibaki’s predecessor, but since his election in 2002 the country has largely enjoyed freedom of the press.
However, in the last few months, the Kenyan government has been under fire over allegations of corruption reported by the news media.

Information Minister Mutahi Kagwe said he knows nothing about the raids, but earlier this week he threatened government action if the media continued what he called “misreporting and misrepresentation.”

A 8/26/2006 article by Jeffrey Gettleman, titled, ‘Obama gets a warm welcome in Kenya’ published in the New York Times is linked below. Note that then-Senator Obama was already being hailed as a possible future POTUS at that time, both in Kenya and here in the U.S.A.
