Readers of the WOBIK blog may, or may not, be aware that Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga recently spent more than nearly three (3) months in the United States at Boston University where he was in residence for the spring semester at Boston University’s African Presidential Center.
It appears that Odinga left Kenya for the United States on March 9th (2014) and that he arrived back in Kenya May 31st (2014).
Odinga also gave a speech at Harvard University and in April he traveled to Atlanta and laid a wreath on Martin Luther King’s grave and visited the Martin Luther King Center where he addressed students from several universities.
Odinga also gave speeches at (or addressed) the following universities:
1. Columbia University in New York
2. Princeton University in New Jersey
3. Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina
4. University of Massachusetts.
His wife, Ida Odinga, who also travelled with Odinga to the United States, delivered a lecture at Wellesley University in Boston.
Raila Odinga asked the above cited universities to give more scholarships Kenyan students.
He also stated that in the next decade at least twelve (12) African nations will become large oil exporters injecting $3 trillion into their economies. Raila maintained that corruption is swallowing Africa’s potential, although leaders tend to dismiss concerns about it. He said that Africa loses $148 billion to corruption annually, equal to 25 percent of the continent’s GDP.
It should also be noted that in May he attended a global health summit in Atlanta, Georgia organised by CARE International. Odinga said that Malari and HIV were down and secondary school enrollment and per capita income per person were rising.
In an interview (May 2014) at Boston University, published on 05.22.2014 by Susan Seligson at www.bu.edu/ (link here), the following was stated by Raila Odinga:
It’s really unfortunate that Obama did not come to Kenya last year when he came to Africa. One hopes that he’ll come before his term is up. I would like to extend the invitation to him to come to Kenya. I think it would do Kenya good. He has his grandfather and stepfather here and in their lifetimes they really wish to receive one of their own while he is president.
When asked if President Obama’s Kenyan heritage has made any difference to Kenya he stated:
It should have been a good selling point for Kenya, but I don’t think it has given Kenyans an advantage as one might have expected. Maybe Kenya has also by extension inherited some of Obama’s enemies.
In a Kenya Star article (which addressed the Boston University interview), titled Obama has not helped Kenya, Raila now claims and published on 05.26.2014 by Francis Mureithi the Kenyan report states:
FORMER Prime Minister Raila Odinga has slammed the Barack Obama administration, saying the US President has not helped Kenya, contrary to great expectations.
…
Obama has given Kenya a wide berth since he was elected America’s 44th President in November 2008.
During his first term, Obama made his first trip to Africa as president, visiting Ghana in 2009. After being reelected to serve his second and last term, Obama made a second trip to Africa last June, where he visited Senegal, Tanzania and South Africa. His term as US president will end on January 20, 2017.
Obama visited Kenya in 2006, shortly after he was elected to the Senate, but before he announced his 2008 run for the White House.
WOBIK Conclusion:
The Boston University interview, and Raila Odinga (and his wife, Ida) having recently spent nearly three (3) months in the United States at the University, is interesting enough (I had no idea that Odinga was in the United States and I certainly did not know that he was in residence this spring at Boston University) and it is plainly an undoubtedly noted that Barack Obama has physically disconnected himself from his birth place of Kenya ever since he announced his 2008 bid for President of the United States of America but I also found the following remark by Odinga to be thought-provoking:
He [president Barack Obama] has his grandfather and stepfather here [in Kenya] and in their lifetimes they really wish to receive one of their own while he is president.
Who are these individuals?
1. Obama has a stepfather in Kenya?
2. Obama has a living grandfather in Kenya?

Raila Odinga is a Marxist who graduated from the East Germany Magdeburg University in 1970 on a scholarship from the East German government. He named his first son after Fidel Castro. Raila Odinga spent six years in prison for involvement in the 1982 bloody coup attempt to assassinate Daniel Arap Moi, Kenya’s President. Odinga admitted to being the leader of that coup in 2006.
Odinga told the BBC he and then Senator Obama were first cousin. Mr. Obama’s heritage is from the same Muslim Luo Tribe as Odinga. Senator Obama, who is very popular in Kenya, visited that country in August of 2006 and campaigned with Odinga, giving Odinga an huge boost politically. During campaign stops, Obama made allegations that the government of Kenya and Kenya’s President Mwai Kibaki, were corrupt, often stating, Kenya was “ready for change”, just as he campaigned in the United States during the 2008 Presidential election. In truth, Mibaki’s government was better than most in Africa and Odinga had corruption issues of his own.
Obama’s support for Odinga caused Kenyan Government spokesman, Alfred Matua, to complain of Obama’s political aid in Odinga’s election: “It is very clear that the Senator has been used as a puppet to perpetuate opposition politics,” And, “…we earlier thought he was mature in his assessment of Kenyan and African politics,” Mutua told AFP. “We forgive him because it is his first time in the Senate and he is yet to mature into understanding issues of foreign policy.
Senator Obama sent his foreign policy advisor, Mark Lippert, to Kenya at least three times to advise Odinga on campaign strategies. (See Mark Hyman’s Washington Times article published October, 12, 2008). Senator Obama donated over one million U.S. dollars ($1,000,000) to his cousin’s campaign, which is documented in the Political Party, of Mr. Odinga. The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) along with funds from other Muslim supporters including the son of Libyan Dictator Muammar Gadhafi. The information is available on the internet/YouTube.
Detailed in Odinga’s financial reports and strategies of the ODM is an Internal Memo which reveals a large part of Senator Obama’s financial contribution to Odinga (made through an organization known as Friends of Senator Barack Obama) were used to finance both the signed Muslim Memorandum of Understanding and planned riots, burning of churches, mass murders and assaults, that occurred against Christians in December of 2007. Per the ODM Memo, MONEY DONATED BY Mr. Obama SHOULD BE USED for “VIOLENCE as a last result…to depress voter participation in hostile areas..use ODM agents on the ground to engineer ethnic tensions in targeted areas…support Kapondi’s forces in Mt. Eglori” and to do so during “Mid-December”. The violence described was carried out starting at the beginning of the second week of December 2007. Odinga’s followers went on a rampage burning Kikuyu homes, churches and businesses, raping Kikuyu women, and murdering everyone in their path—including 50 mostly Christian Kikuyu woman and children who were burned alive in a church. Those who tried to flee were hacked to death by machete-wielding members of a mob of 2,000.
Odinga ran his failed campaign for the Kenyan presidency in the same manner as Senator Obama’s American campaign. He joined a Christian Church and professed to be Christian to influence public opinion away from his Muslim sympathies. The United Church of Christ in Chicago, where Obama was a member, does not require a
person to reject their prior faith to join the church. The Memorandum of Understanding, between Raila Odinga and Shiek Abdullahi Abdi, chairman of the National Muslim Leaders Forum, was signed by Odinga in August 29, 2007. The details of the MOU were shocking. In return for Muslim backing, Odinga promised to impose a measures favored by Muslims if he were elected president. Among these were recognition of “Islam as the only true religion,” Islamic leaders would have an “oversight role to monitor activities of ALL other religions [emphasis in original],” installation of Shariah courts in every jurisdiction, a ban on Christian preaching, replacement of the police commissioner who “allowed himself to be used by heathens and Zionists,” adoption of a women’s dress code, and bans on alcohol and pork.
By mid-February 2008, over 1,500 Kenyans had been killed. Scores were slain by machete-wheeling attackers. Over 500,000 were displaced by the strife. Villages were in ruin. Most of the atrocities were committed by Muslims against Christians.
President Kibaki ask for a meeting of opposition leaders in early January 2008 in an attempt to calm the violence. All agreed to attend except Odinga. A month later, Mr. Kibaki offered Odinga the prime minister position, the No. 2 in job in the Kenyan government, to end the violence. Odinga accepted and was sworn in on April 17, 2008.
Mr. Obama’s backed a man with disturbing connections to extremists and whose supporters (perhaps at his direction) partook in arson, mayhem, rape and murder to achieve his ambitions.

I’ve seen conflicting opinions posted regarding Odinga being a ‘first cousin’ of Barack Hussein Obama II. Odinga may have claimed to be a first cousin, but I don’t know if this claim is accurate.
African genealogy is often quite complicated and I think this claimed ‘cousin’ relationship between Odinga and Obama is open to discussion.

Upon doing some brief research, which is outlined below, I have concluded that Barack Hussein Obama II is NOT a ‘FIRST COUSIN’ of Raila Odinga.
In order for them to be first cousins, they would have to be non-siblings who share the same grandparents, and this does not appear to be the case.

Raila Odinga’s paternal grandfather has been identified as being a “woodcutter”, thus apparently ruling him out as being the same as Obama’s paternal grandfather, Hussein Onyango Obama. Also, of course, the ‘Odinga’ surname coming down from Raila’s fathers side bears no relation to the name ‘Obama’.

I couldn’t locate any information regarding Raila Odinga’s maternal grandmother but there certainly does not seem to be any indication that she was BHO-II’s maternal grandmother, Habiba Akumu Nyanjoga.
