Barack Obama: Fake tears, Newtown CT, gun control, predator drones, Fast & Furious.

For the record: I haven’t always agreed or supported the positions and opinions of Alex Jones.   I don’t categorically believe everything hes said in his previous and incalculable videos.   Moreover, I gather that there have been previous occasions in which Jones has absolutely inserted his foot into his mouth.   Sometimes one gets a taste of ‘foot in the mouth’ when they are in a hurry to be the first to report some breaking news and don’t have time to verify facts or to think over, reassess and reexamine their hypothesis.

At any rate, I DO AGREE with much of the discussion within the above video by Alex Jones.

"The counts of the indictment are luxury, bad manners, contempt for authority, disrespect to elders, and a love for chatter in place of exercise...Children began to be the tyrants, not the slaves, of their households. They no longer rose from their seats when an elder entered the room; they contradicted their parents, chattered before company, gobbled up the dainties at table, and committed various offences against Hellenic tastes, such as crossing their legs. They tyrannised over the paidagogoi and schoolmasters." - Kenneth John Freeman (from his Cambridge dissertation published in 1907)

I agree with the accurate statements that Alex Jones makes in the video about Obama’s goal to forcefully establish EVEN MORE GUN CONTROL and I am in total sympathy with his obvious ANGER and PASSION directed at the issue.

We are now at a very serious fork in the road. I assume Obama and his radical-left fascist assistants and handlers know this.

If laws banning or severely restricting the ownership or use of guns are implemented and enforced, this would leave these individuals totally without an effective means of self-defense for themselves and their loved-ones!

    Gun Control is Evil Misspelled

    Front Page Mag
    Daniel Greenfield

If you’re the biblically minded sort, then the trouble began when a jealous Cain clubbed Abel to death, but if you’re evolutionarily minded, then it’s a “chicken and egg” question. Violence had no beginning, except perhaps in the Big Bang; it was always here, coded into the DNA.

The issue isn’t really guns. Guns are how we misspell evil. Guns are how we avoid talking about the ugly realities of human nature while building sandcastles on the shores of utopia.

The obsession with guns, rather than machetes, stone clubs, crossbows or that impressive weapon of mass death, the longbow (just ask anyone on the French side of the Battle of Agincourt) is really the obsession with human agency. It’s not about the fear of what one motivated maniac can do in a crowded place, but about the precariousness of social control that the killing sprees imply.

Mostly it’s about people who are sheltered from the realities of human nature trying to build a shelter big enough for everyone. A Gun Free Zone where everyone is a target and tries to live under the illusion that they aren’t. A society where everyone is drawing unicorns on colored notepaper while waiting under their desks for the bomb to fall.

After every shooting there are more zero tolerance policies in schools that crack down on everything from eight-year-olds making POW POW gestures with their fingers to honor students who bring pocket knives to school. And then another shooting happens and then another one and they wouldn’t happen if we just had more zero tolerance policies for everyone and everything.

Zero tolerance for the Second Amendment makes sense. If you ban all guns, except for those in the hands of the 708,000 police officers, the 1.5 million members of the armed forces, the countless numbers of security guards, including those who protect banks and armored cars, the bodyguards of celebrities who call for gun control, and any of the other people who need a gun to do their job, then you’re sure to stop all the shootings.

So long as none of those millions of people, or their tens of millions of kids, spouses, parents, grandchildren, girlfriends, boyfriends, roommates and anyone else who has access to them and their living spaces, carries out one of those shootings.

But this isn’t really about stopping shootings; it’s about controlling when they happen. It’s about making sure that everyone who has a gun is in some kind of chain of command. It’s about the belief that the problem isn’t evil, but individual agency, that if we make sure that everyone who has guns is following orders, then control will be asserted and the problem will stop. Or if it doesn’t stop, then at least there will be someone higher up in the chain of command to blame. Either way authority is sanctified, control or the illusion of it, maintained.

We’ll never know the full number of people who were killed by Fast and Furious. We’ll never know how many were killed by Obama’s regime change operation in Libya, with repercussions in Mali and Syria. But everyone involved in that was following orders. There was no individual agency, just agencies. No lone gunman who just decided to go up to a school and shoot kids. There were orders to run guns to Mexico and the cartel gunmen who killed people with those guns had orders to shoot. There was nothing random or unpredictable about it. Or as the Joker put it, “Nobody panics when things go according to plan. Even if the plan is horrifying.”

Free Republic is running a thread titled, ‘Far Left Groups Defeated Connecticut Mental Health Protection Laws Just Months Before Shooting’, which was started 12/15/2012 by ‘Para-Ord.45’

The thread references a 12/15/2012 Gatewaypundit article posted by Jim Hoft –

Months before the Newtown massacre far left groups defeated a Connecticut mental health protections law. Counter Contempt reported:

Here’s a fact you might not know – Connecticut is one of only SIX states in the U.S. that doesn’t have a type of “assisted outpatient treatment” (AOT) law (sometimes referred to as “involuntary outpatient treatment”). There’s no one standard for these types of laws, but (roughly speaking) these are laws that allow for people with mental illness to be forcibly treated BEFORE they commit a serious crime. Whereas previous legal standards held that the mentally ill cannot be institutionalized or medicated until they harm someone or themselves, or until they express an immediate intent to do so, AOT laws (again, roughly speaking) allow for preventativeinstitutionalization or forced medication (I highly recommend reading the data cited in the link I provided in this paragraph, especially regarding what is known as “first episode psychosis”).

AOT laws vary state-by-state, and often bear the name of a person murdered by an untreated mentally ill person (“Kendra’s Law” in New York, “Laura’s Law” in California, etc.).

Earlier this year, Connecticut considered passing an AOT law (and a weak one, at that), and it failed, due to protests from “civil liberties” groups.

Video: Chuck Woolery; The Real Assault Weapon Is The Liberal Media; Feinstein Calls For Ban

    Birther Report

    Game Show Legend Chuck Woolery:

“The Real Assault Weapon is the Liberal Media”
By Mac Slavo @ Silver Bear Cafe

Legendary game show host Chuck Woolery has a message for Americans, and he delivers it with an AR-15 in hand.

    — There is no doubt that it’s a tragedy when anyone takes the life of another without cause.

    — But to blame assault weapons for this tragedy would be like, well, blaming airplanes for the 9-11 attacks.

    — The problem lies with the perpetrator, not the tool used to commit the crime.

    — As of right now, the Constitution is still the law of the land. And since we are a nation of laws and not men, we need to follow it carefully.

    — The second amendment allows for assault weapons. The left argues that the founding fathers didn’t even know what an assault weapon was. As usual, this argument is wrong again.

    — To say that the Constitution limits the kind of guns we can own would be like saying the Constitution limits the kind of religion people can practice.

    — Our founding fathers wanted every citizen to be armed equal to the army in case of takeover by a tyrannical government. They wanted us to have protection… from them!

    — Crazed criminals shooting up innocent people is a tragedy, but all the gun bans in the world will not stop them. Criminals will always find the weapons they need to carry out their crime.

    — The only people that will be going unarmed are the law-abiding citizens like you and me.

    — When you hear people talking about banning assault weapons, know the real assault weapon is the liberal media.[/INDENT]

Chuck Woolery’s Five Reasons For Why We Cannot Ban Firearms in America: (video)

With more guns sold in America last year than there are soldiers in the world’s ten largest armed forces, Americans are vehemently rejecting the notion that the U.S. Constitution is an outdated document.

Whether it’s California democrat Dianne Feistein attempting to ban rifles across the country, attempts to restrict the purchase of ammunition, or the United Nations making a power-play over America’s sovereignty, the fight for our right to bear arms is in full swing.

Victory must be had, because the alternative is a world where the people will forever be wards and slaves of a State bent on total control.

Gun Control, Thought Control and People Control

    Canada Free Press
    Daniel Greenfield

The gun control debate, like all debates with the left, is reducible to the question of whether we are individuals who make our own decisions or a great squishy social mass that helplessly responds to stimuli. Do people kill with guns or does the availability of guns kill people? Do bad eating habits kill people or does the availability of junk food kill people?

To the left these are distinctions without a difference. If a thing is available then it is the cause of the problem. The individual cannot be held accountable for shooting someone if there are guns for sale. Individuals have no role to play because they are not moral actors, only members of a mob responding to stimuli.

You wouldn’t blame a dog for overeating; you blame the owners for overfeeding him. Nor do you blame a dog for biting a neighbor. You might punish him, but the punishment is training, not a recognition of authentic responsibility on the part of the canine. And the way that you think of a dog, is the way that the left thinks of you. When you misbehave, the left looks around for your owner.

The cult of the left believes that it is engaged in a great apocalyptic battle with corporations and industrialists for the ownership of the unthinking masses. Its acolytes see themselves as the individuals who have been “liberated” to think for themselves. They make choices. You, however, are just a member of the unthinking masses. You are not really a person, but only respond to the agendas of your corporate overlords. If you eat too much, it’s because corporations make you eat. If you kill, it’s because corporations encourage you to buy guns. You are not an individual. You are a social problem.

    — The individual is nothing, the crowd is everything. Control the mass and you control the individual —

Individual behavior is a symptom of a social problem. Identify the social problem and you fix the behavior. The individual is nothing, the crowd is everything. Control the mass and you control the individual.

That is how the left approached this election. Instead of appealing to individual interests, they went after identity groups. They targeted low information voters and used behavioral science to find ways to manipulate people. The right treated voters like human beings. The left treated them like lab monkeys. And the lab monkey approach is triumphantly toted by progressives as proof that the left is more intelligent than the right. And what better proof of intelligence can there be than treating half the country like buttons of unthinking responses that you can push to get them to do what you want.

Would you let a lab monkey own a gun? Hell no. Would you let it choose what to eat? Only as an experiment. Would you let it vote for laws in a referendum? Not unless it’s trained to push the right button. Would you let it drive a car? Nope. Maybe a bicycle. And if it has to travel a long way, you’ll encourage it to use mass transit. Does a monkey have freedom of speech? Only until it annoys you.

You’ll take away most of the monkey’s bananas, which you’re too lazy to go and find for yourself because you have more important things to do than fetch bananas. You train monkeys to fetch bananas for you. That is how the enlightened elites of the left see the workers whose taxes they harvest; as monkeys that they taught in their schools and created jobs for with their stimulus plans for. And the least that the monkeys could do is pay their taxes, because the monkeys didn’t build that. You did.

You do plan to take care of monkey’s medical expenses, at least until they get too high, and spay and neuter it with free birth control. You will train it to be the smartest and most well-behaved monkey it can be. And when it gets too sick, you plan to have it mercifully put down so it doesn’t hang around spreading diseases and depressing you with its misery.

And what’s wrong with any of that? Human beings are just evolved monkeys. It’s not as if you’re being cruel to the monkey. You’re engaged in what you might charitably think of as a symbiotic relationship with the monkey. If the monkey were smart, it might think of you as a parasite. But you have a whole lot of rounds of ammunition stockpiled in case of a Planet of the Apes scenario.

If you assume that there is as much of a substantive difference the elite and the common man as there is between a man and a monkey, there is nothing particularly inappropriate about such behavior. We herd animals. Liberals herd people. The human being is the livestock of the liberal animal farm.

    — Liberals believe that they are the master race on account of their superior empathy and intelligence —

The Nazis believed that they were the master race because they were genetically superior. Liberals believe that they are the master race on account of their superior empathy and intelligence. There’s an obvious paradox in believing that you have the right to enslave and kill people because you care more, but that didn’t stop millions of people from joining in with revolutions that led to a century of bloodshed in the name of movements that cared more.

The defining American code is freedom. The defining liberal code is compassion. Conservatives have attempted to counter that by defining freedom as compassionate, as George W. Bush did. Liberals counter by attempting to define compassion as liberating, the way that FDR did by classing freedoms with entitlements in his Four Freedoms.

On one side stands the individual with his rights and responsibilities. On the other side is the remorseless state machinery of supreme compassion. And there is no bridging this gap.

Liberal compassion is not the compassion of equals. It is a revolutionary pity that uses empathy only as fuel for outrage. It is the sort of compassion practiced by people who like to be angry and who like to pretend that their anger makes them better people. It is the sort of compassion that eats like poison into the bones of a man or a society, even while swelling their egos with their own wonderfulness.

“Then-state senator Obama had backed a bipartisan bill called the Safe Neighborhoods Act. It would have raised the crime of illegal transport of a firearm from a misdemeanor to a felony. But on the crucial day of the vote, Obama was out of town–and on vacation, in Hawaii. The bill failed by only three votes, and the media pounced–as did Obama’s rivals. It was the moment, Obama later said, when he knew he would lose the race.”… June 21, 2012

Gun prosecutions are way down since Obama took office. And why wouldn’t they be. Obama and the US Justice Department would have to prosecute themselves otherwise for their involvement in Fast and Furious.

From the Washington Examiner December 17, 2012.

“Gun prosecutions under Obama down more than 45 percent”

“Despite his calls for greater gun control, including a new assault weapons ban that extends to handguns, President Obama’s administration has turned away from enforcing gun laws, cutting weapons prosecutions some 40 percent since a high of about 11,000 under former President Bush.

“If you are not going to enforce the laws on the books, then don’t start talking about a whole new wave of new laws,” said a gun rights advocate.

New York newspaper publishes list of gun owners, depicting trend

    Anthony Martin, Conservative Examiner

A New York newspaper is drawing the ire of its readers in light of what is tantamount to a decision to publish the names of gun owners in its local reading area, according to a report Tuesday at Fox News.

The Journal News published an interactive map that allows readers to find the names and addresses of all gun owners within the geographic area of their residence in Westchester and Rockland counties.

But by Tuesday the decision to publish the information, obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, had set off a firestorm of controversy among the newspaper’s readers. Letters to the paper blasted the publication of the map. One writer stated that the newspaper had inadvertently announced to criminals which homes had no guns and were therefore the most vulnerable to burglaries and home invasions.

The newspaper defended its decision to publish the map, stating that its readers were highly interested in gun control in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Newtown, Conn.

The practice of some news outlets, usually those with a decidedly anti-gun bias, to publish the names and addresses of gun owners is nothing new. Back in July of this year television station WRAL in Raleigh, N.C. published a database that allowed readers to see how many of their fellow citizens own guns in their neighborhoods. Although the publication of the database came beforehand, the station decided to update and republish the information in the aftermath of the July shooting in Aurora, Colo. when a crazed shooter murdered 12 persons at a movie theater.

In the years prior to the Aurora shooting, gun rights enthusiasts had regularly engaged in a systematic public relations campaign against newspapers that publish the names and addresses of citizens who are licensed to carry concealed guns.

Sheriff Arpaio sending armed posse to protect schools

    AZ Family
    Jason Volentine

PHOENIX — Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Thursday that he plans to deploy his armed volunteer posse to protect Valley schools from the kind of violence that happened in the Connecticut shooting tragedy. Arpaio believes having armed law officers around schools will deter would-be criminals from trying anything violent and, possibly, stop them if they do.

“I have the authority to mobilize private citizens and fight crime in this county,” Arpaio said.

Arpaio first started using his posse to protect malls during the holiday shopping season in 1993 in response to violent incidents in prior years. Since then he said malls where his posse members are on patrol have had zero violent re-occurrences and patrols by his all-volunteer squad during the 2012 shopping season netted a record 31 arrests.

Arpaio said since the program has worked so well in malls he believes it will work just as well protecting schools.

“We’re not talking about placing the posse in the schools right now but in the outlying — the perimeters of the school — to detect any criminal activity.”

The sheriff didn’t talk logistics but said he’ll use members of his 3,000 strong posse to patrol schools in towns that fall under sole jurisdiction of the sheriff’s office – places like Cave Creek, Anthem, Fountain Hills, Sun City, Litchfield Park, Gila Bend, Carefree, Queen Creek, Guadalupe – which he said amounts to about 50 grade, middle and high schools.

“I don’t know if they agree [to my plan] or not. I’ll coordinate with them,” the sheriff said, admitting he has yet to talk it over with the schools.

Arpaio’s plan came the day after his counterpart in Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu and Attorney General Tom Horne said they want to arm teachers and principals.

In response, Arpaio said he’d rather see armed resource officers back in all schools — a program that’s been largely de-funded in recent years.

“I support arming cops in the schools,” Arpaio said. “If you have a cop that’s armed you don’t need a teacher that’s armed.”

A working group led by Vice President Biden is seriously considering measures backed by key law enforcement leaders that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks, and stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors, the sources said.

To sell such changes, the White House is developing strategies to work around the National Rifle Association that one source said could include rallying support from Wal-Mart and other gun retailers for measures that would benefit their businesses. White House aides have also been in regular contact with advisers to New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg (I), an outspoken gun-control advocate who could emerge as a powerful surrogate for the Obama administration’s agenda.

In addition to potential legislative proposals, Biden’s group has expanded its focus to include measures that would not need congressional approval and could be quickly implemented by executive action, according to interest-group leaders who have discussed options with Biden and key Cabinet secretaries. Possibilities include changes to federal mental-health programs and modernization of gun-tracking efforts by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Obama’s advisers have calculated that the longer they wait, the more distance there is from the Newtown massacre and the greater the risk that the bipartisan political will to tackle gun violence will dissipate.

“This is not something that I will be putting off,” Obama said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” in an interview broadcast last Sunday.

At the White House meeting, Stanek said, “the vice president indicated that there was a very short timeline for him to get back to the president with his recommendations because the American public has a short memory.”

Defiance grows as elected officials refuse to enforce new gun control

    Anthony Martin, Conservative Examiner

When President Obama stated just after the Connecticut school shooting that he would seek sweeping new control legislation, which conservatives have predicted all along, he stated that there would be “some resistance.” As it turns out, that resistance has been so widespread that elected officials across the country have vowed to refuse to implement any new gun control. A statement issued Friday by a county sheriff in Kentucky is the latest example.

According to Breitbart, Sheriff Denny Peyman of Jackson County, Ky. stated,

    — “My office will not comply with any federal action which violates the United States Constitution or the Kentucky Constitution which I swore uphold.” —

The sheriff’s remarks came in response to local questions concerning whether or not law enforcement officials would enforce gun bans, new gun control laws, or any other firearms initiative implemented by Congress or by presidential executive order.

Sheriff Peyman further stated that in the face of real opposition, gun control proponents will back down when they see how thoroughly the majority of the country opposes what Washington is doing in attacking the Second Amendment rights of citizens.

Such real opposition is expressing itself in outright defiance. In Wyoming, for example, state legislators have introduced a bill that could result in the arrest of and felony charges against federal agents who, within state borders, attempt to implement bans on guns, ammo, or magazines that hold over 10 rounds.

Called the “Firearms Protection Act,” the new law would annul any federal law that bans semiautomatic firearms and high capacity magazines that fire multiple rounds.

Watch journalists squirm over ‘gun-free’ signs

Slam doors, call cops when confronted by hidden camera

    Bob Unruh

An undercover video investigation by Project Veritas, whose founder James O’Keefe is widely known for his devastating 2009 undercover video exposé of ACORN, reveals the private actions of the journalists who, in the form of the Journal News newspaper in New York, very publicly revealed the names and addresses of gun-permit holders.

Project Veritas members posed as an anti-gun rights coalition asking to post anti-gun signs on lawns, with the simple message that that home was a “gun free zone,” and they approached the journalists in the Rockland and Westchester county areas in New York, including those from the White Plains-based Journal News.

But they found that of the dozen homes of anti-gun activists visited, four times doors were closed in their faces, three times the signs were rejected, twice law enforcement was called to remove them from the properties, and three times they found armed guards already on the properties.

Stops by the team included the homes of Star Ledger columnist Bob Braun, Journal News publisher Janet Hasson, reporter Alex Weisler, Journal News editor Cynthia Lambert and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder.

O’Keefe’s crew asked journalists whether they would put a sign in their lawn that says “Citizens Against Senseless Violence. THIS HOME IS PROUDLY GUN FREE!”

    Uniformly they were denied permission.

O’Keefe, who also previously released a video of a Democrat campaign operative plotting vote fraud, explained he wanted to see how top gun control advocates “felt when placed in the same position as our nation’s children – within a Gun Free Zone.”

“Our nation’s children spend the majority of their week within schools that are starkly emblazoned with signs that read ‘Gun Free Zone.’ Project Veritas put that same concept to the test with some of America’s most fervent advocates for gun control,” he said.

He said his team went door-to-door in New York, New Jersey and Washington to see which outspoken champions for gun control would be willing to declare their own home as a “Gun Free Zone.”

“It’s amazing to see members of our media equivocate and contradict their spoken and written words when faced with the dilemma to declare their own homes as gun free,” O’Keefe said. “Surprisingly, we found that the homes of the very New York paper that was willing to put the lives and fortunes of gun owners at risk by publishing their names and addresses, were also the most heavily armed and protected.

“The hypocrisy of New York’s Journal News is beyond words.

Obama to Announce Gun Ban Surrounded by Children

    John Nolte

America’s never-let-a-crisis-go-to-waste Administration will strike again tomorrow with a series of restrictions on our civil rights when it comes to a Second Amendment the president is duly sworn to protect, not infringe upon. By hook or crook — including up to 19 executive orders — the Washington Post reports that the White House will seize the moment with an assault weapons ban, among other things:

—– President Obama will unveil a sweeping set of gun-control proposals at midday Wednesday, including an assault weapons ban, universal background checks and limits on the number of bullets magazines can hold, according to sources familiar with the plans.

—– The announcement, to be delivered at the White House, is also expected to include a slate of up to 19 executive actions that the Obama administration can take on its own to attempt to limit gun violence.

Fox is reporting that this gun ban will be (demagogued) announced as (Dear Leader) Obama is surrounded by sweet-faced props youngsters.

    Somewhere Piers Morgan is smiling.

We might learn more between now and noon tomorrow, but as of now, nothing currently being reported points to anything with respect to the Obama White House pushing to restrict the entertainment industry’s First Amendment rights.

While the Left and the media (but I repeat myself) are quite obviously obsessed with their ongoing culture war against the kind of Red Staters these gun laws will predominantly affect, at least some phony, shallow lip service had been paid to the idea that certain video games and films that celebrate violence might also be part of the problem.

But like tax breaks for the rich, maybe Obama’s Hollywood pals have again managed to carve themselves out another sweet, plump exception.

Also, even though more poor black people were gunned down this year in Chicago than in all the mass-shootings over the last decade or so, apparently the media and White House have no interest in banning the hand guns responsible for those murders.

But if gun bans save lives, why not?

Like I said, this isn’t really about saving lives. It’s a culture war against the NRA and rural gun owners.

Thank you for posting this, Bruce! I have been telling friends and family, for years, about the dangers of electronic money but it seems that no one cared! Maybe now people will wake up a little bit!

    @ Bruce:

  22. Team Obama is probably happy to report that on Saturday night (01.19.2013) Nehemiah Griego, a 15 year old, allegedly shot and killed his parents and three siblings in their home in New Mexico. The 15 year old allegedly used several guns in the shootings, including one assault rifle.

  23. Ericka Gallinger says:

The second amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees every American the right to bear arms. Has any law ever been so ambiguous? What are arms? What does it mean to bear them? At least with the first amendment we know exactly where we stand: Freedom of speech. It couldn’t be any clearer. But, the right to bear arms leaves the second amendment open to different interpretations. We need gun permits to carry a concealed weapon. Do we need knife permits? No. Yet both can, and often do, cause death. We can own a gun, or a rifle, or a sub-machine gun, or a machete, and dozens of other tools to kill, even our own bare hands. So, gun control is a debate in our country that makes no sense unless you broaden the ban or acceptance to include all instruments of death.”

Police chief killed with rifle lost in ATF gun-tracking program

    Los Angeles Times
    Richard A. Serrano

WASHINGTON—A high-powered rifle lost in the ATF’s Fast and Furious controversy was used to kill a Mexican police chief in the state of Jalisco earlier this year, according to internal Department of Justice records, suggesting that weapons from the failed gun-tracking operation have now made it into the hands of violent drug cartels deep inside Mexico.

Luis Lucio Rosales Astorga, the police chief in the city of Hostotipaquillo, was shot to death Jan. 29 when gunmen intercepted his patrol car and opened fire. Also killed was one of his bodyguards. His wife and a second bodyguard were wounded.

Local authorities said eight suspects in their 20s and 30s were arrested after police seized them nearby with a cache of weapons — rifles, grenades, handguns, helmets, bulletproof vests, uniforms and special communications equipment. The area is a hot zone for rival drug gangs, with members of three cartels fighting over turf in the region.

A semi-automatic WASR rifle, the firearm that killed the chief, was traced back to the Lone Wolf Trading Company, a gun store in Glendale, Ariz. The notation on the Department of Justice trace records said the WASR was used in a “HOMICIDE – WILLFUL – KILL –PUB OFF –GUN” –ATF code for “Homicide, Willful Killing of a Public Official, Gun.”

Hundreds of firearms were lost in the Fast and Furious operation. The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives allowed illegal purchasers to buy the firearms at the Lone Wolf store in the Phoenix suburb and other gun shops in hopes of tracing them to Mexican cartel leaders.

The WASR used in Jalisco was purchased on Feb. 22, 2010, about three months into the Fast and Furious operation, by 26-year-old Jacob A. Montelongo of Phoenix. He later pleaded guilty to conspiracy, making false statements and smuggling goods from the United States and was sentenced to 41 months in prison.

Court records show Montelongo personally obtained at least 109 firearms during Fast and Furious. How the WASR ended up in the state of Jalisco, which is deep in central Mexico and includes the country’s second-largest metropolis, Guadalajara, remained unclear.
