Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan, who killed 13 people during a rampage at the Army base where he worked, recently wrote a letter to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) asking to join their army.
“I formally and humbly request to be made a citizen of the Islamic State,”Hasan says in the handwritten document obtained by Fox News and addressed to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of ISIS. “It would be an honor for any believer to be an obedient citizen soldier to a people and its leader who don’t compromise the religion of All-Mighty Allah to get along with the disbelievers.”
Hasan’s attorney, John Galligan, told Fox that it was unfortunate that his client was unable to testify at his own trial about “how his religious beliefs” affected his state of mind during his shooting, as the letter “underscores how much of his life, actions and mental thought process are driven by religious zeal.”
