    Excerpt:

Police have identified the deceased as 22-year-old Quintrell D. Perkins and 20-year-old Sierrah R. Simmons, both of Cedar Rapids. Police said Perkins and Simmons were found dead inside the home at 1708 Fourth Ave. SE Wednesday night. Police were called to the home after receiving multiple reports of a shooting in the area at 10:09 p.m.

Dave Hanover, who lives nearby at 1727 Fourth Ave., said he and his son were in the dining room when they heard multiple shots ring out.

The shooting hits close to home for Denia Davis. Davis said Simmons was her goddaughter. Furthermore, Davis' daughter, Denisha [Davis], is currently rehabbing after being shot at a house party in Iowa City last month. Her wounds have left her paralyzed from the knees down.

Police said Thursday morning they did make one arrest at the scene unrelated to the double-homicide. At 4:30 a.m., officers were called to Fourth Avenue and 18th Street for a report of subjects crossing the police barricades closing off the crime scene. Police said they encountered several subjects who were yelling and swearing at the officers. One of the subjects, 21-year-old Kendan L. Fonville, smelled of alcohol and appeared to be intoxicated. He was taken into custody for public intoxication, police said.
