Each month, even if I’m not physically in the United States, I try to read, among other magazines, GQ (Gentlemen’s Quaterly) and Esquire. I particularly enjoy reading the British editions of each of these magazines. As a republican there are no stipulations that I must read only right winger periodicals or those with conservative political orientation.
I do however acknowledged and concede that I ordinarily read GQ and Esquire for their fashion attire photography. For example, the other year I bought a pair of Lacoste’s Fairbrooke shoes after seeing them advertized in both Esquire and GQ.
Sometime shortly before Christmas, 2012 I appropriated (I didn’t but it) a copy of December, 2012 British edition of GQ magazine. A scan of the cover is provided directly below:
This edition contains a Sheriff Joe Arpaio interview on pages 276 thru 281.
At the outset of the interview I imagined that I would find some sort of reference(s) to Arpaio’s investigation regarding Barack Obama’s birth certificate or other eligibility and fraud related issues.
I was astonished, and rather disappointed, after I read the entire article without finding a single remark or reference to Barack Obama’s birth certificate or other eligibility related issues.
Moreover, Barack Obama’s name is only mentioned one (1) time throughout the entire interview and that is when, on page 278, Russian born reporter Evgeny Lebedev said, “In Phoenix, there’s only one candidate that anyone – love him or loathe him – has interest in, and it isn’t Mitt Romney or Barack Obama.”
Below is a shrimpy-sized list, a thru i, of notable data (to me at least) which I scrapped from the interview, although I’m somewhat certain that all of it has already been available online, some of it for a number years now:
a. On page 277 I learned that Sheriff Arpaio was 80 years old at the time of the interview.
b. On page 279 I learned that Arpaio once worked for the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency). “In 1957, he [Arpaio] was appointed a federal narcotics agent, finally being named head of the DEA’s Arizona branch.”
c. On page 279 Arpaio said, “I was Mitt Romney’s campaign guy for four or five years.”
d. On page 280 the reporter indicated that Arpaio once said the he, Arpaio himself, was honored when he was compared to the Ku Klux Klan. “The prosecution showed the court media interviews in which he [Arpaio] said being compared to the Ku Klux Klan was “an honour”…”
e. On page 281 I learned about a woman named Mary Rose Wilcox, a Maricopa County (Arizona) Supervisor (Democrat) who, after publicly challenging Arpaio’s behavior, was indicted on trumped-up corruption charges which a judge subsequently threw out as a blatant misuse of power by Arpaio. Wilcox also claims that Arpaio had her followed and harassed through the streets by gangs on motorcycles. She also claims that these Nazi-tattooed thugs harassed and freighted her and the clientele at a restaurant that she ran to the point that she finally had no choice other than to close the business.
f. On page 281 I learned that it appears that Sheriff Arpaio is not a proponent of free speech. It appears that he does not advocate the right to free speech as he once had the co-owners of the Phoenix Times arrested after they published a story about him. “The co-owners of the Phoenix Times were arrested at their respective family homes after the paper published details of the sheriff’s properties, including investments. The coverage resulted in subpoenas demanding a release of computer records, including those of anyone who had visited the New York Times’ website and read the story. That case too was dismissed [as Mary Rose Wilcox’s case was dismissed] and a £9m [9 million British Pounds] lawsuit launched in response.”
g. On page 281 I learned that at the time of the interview (December, 2012) Arpaio’s war chest stood at £4.3 million British Pounds, much of which came from out of state.
h. On pages 277, 278 and 281 I learned that actor Steven Seagal might Karate-chop you if you have a beef with his partner-in-crime Sheriff Arpaio.
i. On page 279 I learned that Arpaio is originally from, and was raised in, Springfield, Massachusetts and that his father was born outside of the USA, in Italy. (Also I think his mother too was born in Italy although its not mentioned in the interview). I’m not sure if Arpaio’s parents were, or were not, full US citizens at the time of his birth but if Arpaio ever decides to run for US President I would advocate this being looked into and being taken into consideration by fellow brethren birthers when contemplating whether or not Arpaio is a Natural born citizen.

Below at the foot of this comment is a video clip of Arpaio on CNN saying that it is an honor being compared to the Ku Klux Klan (KKK).
In my opinion, and I respect all opinions of all readers of this blog, he shouldn’t have said that no matter how he meant it.
If you are going to make a statement like that you’d need to elaborate more (and preferably before you even get close to letting the ‘honor’ part come out of your mouth) and setup the right opening to say it, and do so in great yet easy to understand depth, to demonstrate the point you are making and even then you need to say it in just the right tone of voice, with a particular facial expression and certain degree of the correct and called for character.
You can’t just blab it out looking like an old cracker reminiscing of the days when you could slap a ‘coon’ across his ivory piano key teeth just for looking at your young supple white-bread daughter.
I’m no fan of political correct language and I do ardently advocate freedom of speech but I also know that I should think before I speak and that whatever I say can be used against me. If I were to say what Arpaio said and ‘how’ he said it I’d almost have to want people to see me as a ‘coon hater’ otherwise I wouldn’t say it, no matter what the context was.
In my opinion, which admittedly probably means absolutely nothing, Arpaio new exactly what he was doing when he made the comment and by that I mean this:
Any conscientious minded person would know that the comment, in context, could go either way.
A: it could mean that because people were making comparisons between Arpaio and the Ku Klux Klan and by that Arpaio and others could take that as a sign that he is doing his job well and effectively and that the better that he does his job the more that the criminals, and also illegal immigrants, might be vehemently and vocally angered to the point that they would make ‘wild and reckless’ KKK comparisons.
On the other hand:
B: again in the minds of the conscientious, Arpaio’s comment could also be taken a slick racist jab with a clever escape clause because he can always claim the above “A” version. That’s how I myself take his comment. I can almost feel the hate radiating from Arpaio’s body in the interview. I’ve seen similar in other individuals and I heard it in his tone of voice and saw it in his body language.
I’ve been around people like that and they start off making comments which can go either way and you can sort of feel the hate just under the skin, and each time I have to speak up and say something like, ‘look, I don’t care what thoughts are on other races but don’t involve me with it and don’t talk to me about it because I like everyone. End of conversation.’
I’ve heard and sensed the hate talk from a few of my fellow brethren birthers, in person, face to face (especially in Arizona) and it nearly makes me physically sick.
Again, I respect the opinions of all readers of this blog and each and everyone is welcome to post opinions to the contrary of mine.
I have no plans for further blog reports aimed at ‘exposing Arpaio’. I’ve said my part and I’m done. Arpaio can continue living in his strange borderland world. Other white Americans, especially those in Iowa, and probably in most states outside of the southwestern border states, aren’t all obsessed with borderland crap and we don’t care about Arpaio and really and truly we view him as somewhat of a freak show, and that is if anyone of us have even heard of the guy because he’s not a famous as he and his supporters like to believe.
If he can help expose Obama as ineligible to hold of Office of POTUS then that is fantastic and I wont stand in his way. But I’m not going to be the guys cheerleader and if anyone asks for, and really wants, my opinion of the guy then I’ll give it to them.

It is SURPRISING to me that Sheriff Arpaio, who I have always greatly respected, let slip on a major 2007 TV interview with Lou Dobbs that:
I generally agree with your ‘Scenario B Assessment’, although I would use the term ‘disdain’ in describing the Sheriff’s emotion rather than the term ‘hate’ that you used. Most, if not all, people have prejudices of one type or another, for a wide variety of reasons, and I have no intention of vilifying Sheriff Joe on the matter.
I DO think it was a VERY POOR CHOICE OF WORDS on his part which unintentionally probably did reveal some suppressed opinions.

Lou Dobbs visits Phoenix,Az on his week long Independents Day Book Tour. While here in Phoenix, Lou had a meet and greet and a Live interview with Sherrif Joe.
I have generally been very pleased with the actions of Sheriff Arpaio, especially regarding the Obama POTUS eligibility and fraud issues, and hope that justice on these critically important matters will ultimately prevail!

In retrospect I agree that the word ‘disdain‘ would have been a better and more accurate term for me to use in the report. I shouldn’t have used the word ‘hate‘.
The GQ artilce stood out to me because Obama’s birth certificate or any eligibility related was not mentioned. Moreover, Obama’s name was only mentioned one (1) time and that when the reporter was stating that only candidate who anyone in Phoenix had any interest in was not Obama or Romney but rather Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
1. Did Arpaio make remarks and references to Obama’s birth certificate and other eligibility issues and related fraud issues? Was is that GQ decided to leave those remarks out of their published article?
2. Or was it that Joe Arpaio didn’t bring it up?
3. Or was it that GQ never asked?
Those are the questions that I came away with after reading the GQ article.
