    NewsBusters Busted: Mocks Birther Mischief; Fails Miserably Misciting Article II Grandfather Clause

    Excerpt:

    Can people really be this clueless? Bryan Ballas needs to take his own advice and re-read Article II...

    Birther Mischief: NPR Finds Expert to Hint Cruz Eligibility Not an 'Open-and-Shut Case'

    [...] NewsBusters. Hat tip Guest.

    I left the following response in the comment thread:

    One does not have to be "natural born Citizen" to be president?

    WTF!?

    Is Cruz 200+ years old?

    Ballas can't comprehend simple English.

    The part in Article II that reads;

    "or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution,...",,,

    is the Grandfather Clause which allowed the founders to be eligible as they were not "natural born Citizens"... The founders were "Citizens of the of the United States", as the country had just been founded.

    Last I checked Article II requirement was never amended or repealed. Though, both Democrats and Republicans have attempted over a dozen times to do such since at least the 1970's. Every attempt to amend Article II to allow "Citizens of the of the United States" to hold the Office of President and or Vice-President failed.

    And, nice of MRC to use Alinsky attacks against those that simply want the Article II "natural born Citizen" requirement upheld and enforced.
